Default Yahoo to offer new email domains

Yahoo addresses e-mail concerns with new domains - Yahoo! News

Quote:
Yahoo Inc. is offering free e-mail accounts under two new designations in an effort to attract Web surfers unhappy with their current addresses. The Sunnyvale-based company expects to begin registering new addresses under the domains of "ymail" and "rocketmail" around noon PDT (3PM Eastern) Thursday at http://mail.yahoo.com.
It will be the first time that Yahoo has offered e-mail accounts under umbrellas other than its own company name since it became a correspondence conduit in 1997.
Yahoo began offering free e-mail shortly after its $80 million acquisition of Four11 Corp., which included the rocketmail domain. Rocketmail users at the time of the acquisition were allowed to keep their existing accounts, but Yahoo hadn't accepted any new addresses under that name until now.
The diversification into new e-mail designations is being driven by the difficulty that people are having as they try to find an appealing e-mail handle under the Yahoo domain.

Still use Gmail. lol. Yahoo! mail sucks. Even though its "The Number One Web-Based Email" according to their title bar.

I tried to signup for a new one to get rid of my yahoo address (and the 200 spam mails per day) and even though it said my choice was available, as soon as I tried to submit it, it would refresh the page to the static @yahoo.com address is not available... and that my existing yahoo address was not valid either.... yeah right...

Same here. Tried for a ymail address and it said it was invalid (as well as my postal code, wtf). Then it vanished and only yahoo is available now. Looks like they jacked up the rollout and have to fix it. Friggin yahoo....

I've been using Yahoo mail for about 10 years now and have enjoyed it thus far. I rarely get much spam mail anymore since I am pretty anal about blocking addresses with the spam filter. I do have a gmail account, but I rarely use it; just don't have a reason to since Yahoo does everything I need it to do right now.

I have a @btinternet.com account that uses yahoo mail. Never had any problems, overall very happy with it.

I have had a yahoo email address since they first started offering them in what, 1989? 1990? and I average around 200 spam mails per day, mostly in the spam box and trash box (mostly due to my custom filters). I recently started a new address through my ISP and wrote to everyone to change the address in their system from Yahoo to Cox.. I am going to somehow cancel or stop using the yahoo mailbox...

got my first spam from one of the new addresses, it was a scammer trying to reply to my craigslist sale ad for my truck using a rocketmail.com email address... the spammers I bet are having a hayday with it..

I just signed up for a new yahoo account and saw I had multiple options for the domain. Decided to be boring and stuck with yahoo.

Gmail is by far the best at catching all the spams...

And hotmail...hotmail can burn and die.
