Wifi Problems I'm using a Dynex USB adapter with the Aethros chip, which is supposed to be compatible out of the box with Ubuntu. I had my router set with WPA encryption, which worked just fine for everyone here using Vista and XP. Ubuntu says I can't connect because the adapter doesn't support that encryption. Oook, so I downgrade to WEP (ergh), because thats the only thing it'll take and no one around here has the skills to decrypt it. I tried a 128-bit encryption with a passphrase, no dice. Won't connect. Tried a 64-bit. Nope. Tried both with hex only, still nothing. So, I disable encryption altogether. Ding, internets.
That worked all fine and good until I moved my computer about 8 feet, and now it sees the network, has almost the entire signal strength bar colored in, but refuses to connect regardless of what I do. Effectively, this renders Ubuntu inoperable to me. Vista however carries on happily as if it was still in the same spot. I can't just move the computer back since all the furniture was rearranged, but has anybody else had this kind of problem and knows how to fix it? |
