I don't know if this is the right forum, I thought the software section, but this is more internet related than software....

I'm debating whether to start actively using my blog. But I don't wanna be one of those people who actively posts and spends time blogging and then nobody ever looks at or comments or does anything on their blog.

So.... I have a couple questions:

1) What's the best blog?
Right now I use wordpress, but I can't use my blackberry (can't login, it states incorrect password even though I type the correct one)

2) What do you do to get people to view/comment your blog?
I never have actually done anything to promote or get my blog noticed. What do you do?

3) What do you do to keep people on your blog?

Here is mine, as you can see, I don't really do anything besides use it to host pictures, and nobody posts on it.

Any and all help is appreciated :)

With that out of the way, here are my answers to your questions, mate:

1. The best blogging software that I have used so far is phpHaze (but you have to get the creator to install it, PM me for details. No, I'm not the creator of phpHaze.

). If you don't want to go that route, I approve of WordPress.

2. A good way to promote your blog is through the search engines, directories (such as LeetLink), and FuelMyBlog, a place to promote your blog(s).

3. How do I get people to stay and comment? Create a schedule and keep to it. Post interesting stuff. Use good grammar

My blog is WhiteEagle's Aerie and Blog, which can be found by clicking on the WWW link beneath my posts or by going to http://whiteeagle.joffeepublish.com/, or there are links from other sites in my company's network. (Like I said at the beginning, you could have PM'd me and asked, mate!

Well I installed Opera Mini on my phone and Wordpress works, so it doesn't look like I needed phpHaze, but it does look nice.

So..... I will probably re-install my blog and start a-fresh and then use that site to git-r-noticed. (hah, you thought I was gonna say git-r-dun) and hopefully people will notice :)

Hmmmm.... maybe I could host friend's blogs too.....
But thats aside the point

Well my take is pretty simple:

You need to make a Blog interesting. Just like anything else if something is interesting and informative people will visit often. If something is boring people will lose interest in a heartbeat (maybe quicker). I don't blog and I am far from a gammer, however, a good blog is well maintained as was pointed out by White Eagle. Meaning daily updates! If visitors see the same stuff day after day, they won't be long for the blog.

My opinion is if you have enough time in your day to spend it putting stuff into a blog then you have way too much time on you're hands. That being said the original purpose for a blog still remains the best. Basically it was so programmers and other geeks could just do a brain dump of everything they were working on. Then if they were having problems with something other geeks or programmers would offer their suggestions. Now that blogs have become trendy, they have taken on more of a myspace feel then anything else. Now everyone has a blog. I am sorry I could careless what kind of make up makes you feel happy when you put it on at 6am, or how many pimples are on your face. Like anything, when it becomes mainstream it just looses it's appeal, and it's original use is quickly forgotten. Just my 2 cents, oh and for the record, Myspace is not like having your own website.

I used Blogger for my Mac Blog... great, simple interface... Powered by Google, so it should work fine with your Blackberry.

Ok, I am trying to set up Blog by Email on wordpress, but I can't figure out these two patches.

#4337 (Blog by Email: No content is assumed) - WordPress Trac - Trac

Doesn't red mean delete and green mean add?
I've been trying that and it hasn't been working at all. I get various php errors.

I tried it without patching but it won't post any content, only the Subject.

Zambini, I no longer use WordPress as my blog, so I can't help you out with this problem. You'll probably get more help in the WordPress forums.
