| Hey guys, my second D-Link DI-624 has started to go out on me (instantly resets when my xbox360 attempts to connect through live, but was working fine earlier) Any recomendations? | I always recommend the D-Link Gaming Router. They are a tad on the expensive side, but it's the best router I have ever owned. They support up to 108Mpbs Wireless, and have a 4 port built in Gigabite Switch. They also have the best firmware I have ever used. You can configure that router to do just about anything you could want. If you want to go with a cheaper router make sure you can update it with 3rd Party firmware like Tomato or DD-WRT. Most of the Linksys Routers support 3rd party firmware buy you will have to check it out. | My Linksys WRT54GL has been rock solid running DD-WRT for about 9 months now. The wireless range is mediocre compared to MIMO routers, but it's sufficient for my smallish house. All the functions of the DD-WRT firmware are available and work perfectly. I've yet to hack this router to its limits, but honestly I don't need to. If you're not looking for the highest wireless performance, I recommend this router. | Thats the one thing I dislike the most about Linksys routers are their wireless ranges. I also have a WRT54GS running DD-WRT in AP mode. If you're have more then one wall between you and that router you can't even get a signal. My D-link Gaming router is in the Garage on the other side of the house from my computer room and I can pick it up with a 50-70% signal. | ||||||||||||||

| I'd say that's an oversimplified statement about Linksys routers. It's just that their old G routers don't employ MIMO technology and thus it can't squeeze between walls. That's the biggest drawback with almost all older wireless routers. Newer Draft-N routers don't exhibit the same problem and have much better range. Oh, and consider a router with a Gigabit switch (much like what Hitman recommended) if you frequently use your network to transfer large chunks of data from PC to PC. | Gigabit doesn't matter to me, I have the only gigabit capable PC in the whole house, and I doubt my 360 has a gigabit port on it, but I guess it is a plus for the future. @Hitman, is this it? | Yes that's the router, as far as your xbox issues go have you tried updating your firmware? Apparently Older firmware editions aren't Xbox Live compatible. | ||||||||||||||

| Now that I think about it, you might have some problem with the router's firmware. First - are you using the latest firmware version? Definitely check and update if you haven't done so. This might fix the problem immediately. If not, I think it might have to do with a setting in the router. I don't know if your D-Link has the same setting as the DD-WRT firmware does, but if you can find a setting called "Maximum Ports," you should set that limit to its absolute maximum. When I search for servers through Steam, my router gets absolutely filled up with connections made by the stupid thing. The router used to lock up and I had to manually restart it to have a stable connection again. It's been trouble free since I set the limit to its max (4096) and set the timeouts to 900. This might be relevant to you, but it's worth a shot even if its not. | The DGL-4300 is a great Router ... I have had mine for ~2 Years ... trouble free. I'm pretty sure it isn't MIMO ... but has settings for speeding up game play via wireless. | ||||||||||||||
