Rogers Hi-Speed Speed Upgrades!!!

I got a lovely letter today saying I just got an increase in speed from 5mbps to 7mbps - 1.4x difference!!!

This seems to be a service-wide increase. All their customers are recieving insane speed upgrades like this. For example, I have Rogers's second fastest internet connection - Rogers Hi-Speed Express. Their Extreme version is now 8mbps (not a good enough increase for $15 more a month, but still a significant increase from its last 6mbps. So Express and Extreme each had 2mbps increases in speed.

So here is the break down:

Rogers Hi-Speed Ultra Lite:
Old DL: 128kbps New DL: 256kbps
Old UL: 64kbps New DL: no change

Rogers Hi-Speed Lite:
Old DL: 1mbps New DL: no change
Old UL: 128kbps New UL: no change

Rogers Hi-Speed Express:
Old DL: 5mbps New DL: 7mbps
Old UL: 384kbps New UL: 512kbps

Rogers Hi-Speed Extreme:
Old DL: 6mbps New DL: 8mbps
Old UL: 800kbps New UL: no change

As you can see, Express had the most significant change overall, but for most difference, the Ultra-Lite service went up in DL speed 2x. The new UL speeds are desirable nonetheless. However, the DL speeds are just insane. Also, from 7mbps to 8mbps isn't a significant increase. If it's uploading that you crave, Extreme is definitely worth it. There was an information page given by Rogers > http://rogers.com/faster > but when I go to it it just says the page has been removed...convenient eh?

Moreover, prices have stayed exactly where they are - nice of Rogers eh?

The letter said that many users are online more and more, and they increased connection speeds to better serve their customers. Let me tell you the change is noticeable for sure. They gave us a nifty little chart too:



Regardless, this speed increase is definitely a nice deed, so to speak, by Rogers. I can't complain about their service unless it's down - meaning they're very consistent and "trustworthy" (if you will) in terms of uptime and customer care (only 24/7). So all you Rogers users out there in Canada, enjoy your new speeds (for free) and bash Rogers all you want...now!

Technically speaking, the ultra lite package had the most significant change. :P

For DL speeds and numbers, yes, it did have an upgrade by a full 2x. However, the horrible UL speeds stayed the same. The most significant upgrade overall would be the Express package for the obvious reason, even though the DL speeds were only raised by 1.4x. Let us not forget that the UL speeds also had a 1.33333x (continuous decimal) upgrade. So as a package, the Express wins for upgrades. But, as pointed out by polobunny, the Ultra Lite's DL speeds doubled.

Yup, I had some upgrades as well with Cox Premium internet as well. Basic stayed the same, premium went from 5mbps DL to 10 mbps DL, UL stayed 2mbps. and the Premier went from 15 to 20 DL, and UP stayed 2mbps as well.

Lucky. My internet line jumped from 256Kbit to 512kbit about a year and half ago. I must say, downloading at 40 more KBps felt nice, but my internet is way too slow now. I can't stand it. I hate waiting 10 minutes to download iTunes.
