Default A question about torrents

I don't know if this is even cool to bring up (so please put your guns away...), but I have a question regarding bit torrents.

My wife has a friend in the UK, who downloads TV shows/movies off torrents and turns them into music videos to post on YouTube. My wife wants to do the same thing, but heard a rumour that people outside of Europe (Canada/States) get busted for doing this.

Is this true?

Which is the best Torrent client to use?

If it's not fixed, then don't broke it!

I use Azureus, which is pretty good. Anytime you mess with copyrighted material you are taking a risk of getting in trouble.

a torrent is just a method of getting it to you.. once the final file is completely downloaded, it will be the standard filetype like asf, mpg, wmv, and such

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Torrents them selves aren't illegal, but they can host illegal content. I'm not entirely sure how posting a video on the web would be considered a crime, I mean a recorded TV show. You can watch those shows for free, so as far as the TV network should be concerned, its free advertising for their show

just don't keep seeding once the download has finished as this is increased risk. Also most people trying to bust you download the torrent to check who needs to be busted. Therefore technically they are also helping to share the file. This is a little legal loophole that could really pi*s off those trying to prosecute.

Am I in the S*** yet no.
