Thumbs up Planet Gaim

Gaim users can now read the developer's blogs on Planet Gaim. Recent posts indicate that Beta 4 will probably be the last beta before the final release. Among the additional features is a text-based client (both the GUI and text versions are centred on the new gaimlibs) and a global buddy icon, which is shown next to the availability status message.

Sweet. Gaim is the shit. In the past I've used trillian but it was just too flashy and I really didn't need all of that stuff. Gaim satisfies my ever Instant Messaging need.

To tell you the truth, Windows Live Messenger is quickly becoming my favorite IM app, because it's more than just messaging. It has a bunch of app sharing capabilities, in-chat-window games, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Ya'll should check it out.

GAIM is the best out there. GTalk is awfully nice too.
Windows messenger is a program I won't recommend. While you may like the stuff you mentioned, there have been several issues with security

I've been a fan of Trillian for some time now. Don't see any reason to try anything else at the moment, but maybe I'll give Gaim a shot...

GAIM is the best instant messaging program I have ever used. It has a "No-BS" feel to it. I know alot of my friends don't like it because it doesn't look flashy but to me, it serves its purpose.

I agree with Jonathon. That's what I love most about it (besides putting all the buddy lists into one). It has a very simple, clean layout. That's what I hate about Windows Live Messenger. It's too flashy. If only Gaim could get all the functionality that WLM has.
