Default Peer Guardian

Does anyone here use it?
My friend told me to use it cuz it blocks malicious people, such as the Chinese government and our own government. He's had several attempted connections from both during the past couple months.

I have had it running for 3 minutes and I've had attempted connections from Mannheim University in Germany and Braodwing Communications Inc. {whoever the F they are}

[edit] Since I posted this <2 minutes ago I've had dozens of attempted connections from China, including HanYang University and 5 different spammers.

I use it, but I've never actually logged a connection. I don't think it's setup right...

Did you have to let it pass through a firewall or router?

You just have to give it internet access....

I'm not sure of any technical aspects of it. Try downloading Ubuntu via torrent or something, my friend dl's lots of torrents, maybe thats how to get lots of connections.

Also make sure your lists are updated.

Used it. Always thought it was quite unecessary to be honest. Yes, it blocks a lot of connections. Then? What if it didn't block those connections?

If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you?

Yeah I use it. When you download it, it comes with some block lists. I also went over to B.I.S.S. Forums and got some more lists and loaded it in there. Actually it's used in conjunction with a bit torrent application to reduce the chances of the "spying eyes" not seeing you download things you might not ought to download.

You will also have to allow some sites to see you, like google for example. Otherwise you won't get to certain websites or webpages.

Peer guardian has a forum that's pretty good, I would also recommend the B.I.S.S. website..they are also known as bluetack. Another good one if you have any questions about it is....ISO hunt.

Personally, I only turn mine on at "certain times". If you do and you decide to download things that companies might get upset at you about....you will need to leave it on for a while after you shut down your torrent application, because you will still get hits from anti-p2p groups for a little while.

I found the best way to update it is to disable it, update it and then enable it again.

As far as schools and business' hitting you...yeah, I get that alot. I get China and even Middle Eastern countries hitting me at times. I don't know what that's all about....but if your not doing anything that might be misinterpreted as illegal downloading, then I wouldn't be concerned. I mean....you went this long without it and you was probably getting hit by the same people.

Try Comodo firewall software with a NAT router and watch the Comodo logs start up as soon as its enabled.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Yeah, turns out that PeerGuardian wasn't an allowed app in my firewall... Should work now... hopefully.

I also added some IPs from the Protowall site.

I haven't used any type of P2P network in over three years. Don't plan to either.

Where did you download the copy from? If off the main site, that version doesn't yet work with Vista as far as I know. It loads up, but won't block traffic. You need the one off the forums which is still being working on.
