| Hello. I need some help. I want to set up a new networking system in my office and prefer to do it myself. The equipment that I have is Broadband modem, Router, and 5 desktop computers. One of the computers I want to set it as a server. could anyone assist me? |

| Colonel Calamity | The network itself should be straight forward. Plug everything in and it should work out of the box. You will want to get into the router and make sure the NAT firewall is enabled. As for the server, it all depends on what you want to use the server for. If you just need it for some shared files and printer, you can just enable sharing for the Shared folder under My Computer and everything can have its own folder within that area. Otherwise linux tends to be the best setup for a server for websites and everything else. One other option is WHS (Windows Home Server) which can handle pretty much everything you need fairly easily. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! My opinions are my own and not representative of this site or its members. |
