Default IP conflict

I've got the box in my sig plus my wife's old HP connected through a linksys router. When I open VMWare (to login at work) on my machine my wife gets an IP Conflict notice. Any thoughts why?

HP runs XP Pro, as does VMWare.

I'm not sure if the router software is installed only on the HP or if it is also on my box, but it is definitely not installed on the VMWare. Could that be it?

I wonder if it has anything to do with both OS's using the same network card. Can you static two different addresses?

There are several ways to fix this issue, that all have the same end result.

1. in a command prompt type Ipconfig /release, once the IP is released type Ipconfig /renew.
2. in XP click repair conection.
3. Release and renew the IPs for both computers in the router control panel.
4. Restart both computers and let them obtain a new IP address.

Something you should check, in the router control panel make sure that the DHCP server is allotted enough IP address for the amount of computers that you have.

Also check in VMware that it doesn't have the IP set to static.
