Default Internet Explorer 7 notice

I got a newsletter from MS this morning that explained that IE7 will be distributed via their high priority automatic updates soon. This link explains most of what the email was about.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/upd...ouncement.mspx

You can apparently block the update from happening even if you have auto updates turned on, but they suggest you have the measures in place to block it by Novemeber 1. Funny, I was sure the email said they were going to distribute it in October .....LOL. What month is it anyway.......I lose track LOL.

**EDIT>......this is sooooo funny.......they call it the Internet Explorer 7 blocker tool kit. God that is funny.

I like IE6 better if I have to choose between two evils.

I haven't had a chance to use IE7 yet. Why the negative comments? Is it really still that buggy?

Well, as of the last RC, it really felt like I was running a browser on an old pentium II. I tried the first RC and half of the sites I went to had problems. Even something simple like composing emails didn't work well. Then I thought that RC2 would be better and instead it seemed like they slowed it down somehow. So I installed Firefox about 10 days ago and made it my default browser and am very pleased with it.

I can understand when beta code is buggy and problematic, but the RC should be much closer to the production code than it is.

I suppose my experience trying to install vista may be clouding my opinion of MS. And it could also be the news we were discussing about the Vista licensing and features surprises, but I just wasn't impressed with IE7 and I really did give it a few chances.

Very buggy, true, but it's still a beta, so I'll ignore that until the final release.

Although it starts faster than FF, it generally takes while to render pages, and the toolbars are a real PITA. They did away with the File menu by default, and it has a wacky placement if you enable it. The buttons just don't make sense, and are in inconvenient places. Not to mention that the theme looks nasty in XP.

It also lacks the features FF has, especially considering extensions. IE needs extensions, but they don't support any more than toolbars.

That is the absolute primary reason why I love Firefox so much. The wealth, support, and functionality of all the different extensions truly put Firefox in a league of it's own. Not so much the interface (which is nice), but the extras; it's all about the extras!!

Default This has to be a first.

MS hasn't even released the final version yet and I found this.

http://downloads.yahoo.com/internetexplorer/index.php

It is supposedly a special build optimized to work with Yahoo mail.

Big whoop. I hate toolbars. The only one I've ever liked is Web Developer, and that's extremely useful.
