| I hate networking. Within the past two weeks, my router decided that it wants to freeze up and stop working randomly if more then one PC is connected to it. So I figured that I would just pull out my old 12 Port 3COM Hub, plug the modem directly into that, then plug the hardwired PCs and the wireless router into that, but apparently my modem does not play nice with the hub, and will only allow one PC at a time to use the internet from the hub. So as a temporary solution until I get a new router, I had to connect the cable modem into Eth0 on my main rig, then run a cable from Eth1 on my rig to the hub. Then share the internet connection, and from there I Had to plug the other PC into the hub, which was actually pretty pain free. Getting my router (which only seems to be able to cope with wireless now) to behave with the hub was a PITA. The Laptop would not detect an internet connection when the WAN port on the router was connected to the hub. Lan ports 3-4 on the router did not even work with the hub at all, Port 1 connected, but the internet connection did not share. After much troubleshooting, Port 2 was the only port on the router that would connect to the hub, and share the internet connection. Now of course, all the PCs have internet, but the port forwards for my web server no longer function. So my site, they several people host files on are now down ![]() Heres a picture (Ignore the modem, thats an extra one sitting there. The WAN Light is lit on the router because thats before I tried to get the wireless to have internet) Yes, that is a transformer and a fan next to the hub, the hub's internal fan is dead. Anyone got any recomondations for a cheap but good wireless G router? | I have a Netgear WGT624 firewall router. By far, out of the 5 routers I've owned over the last 8 years, this has been the best of them all. Excellent range, dependable and easy. It was reviewed well too. | I have a cheap Belkin G router that gives the inlaws (they live next door) internet via wireless. Gets good middle of the road signal with decent speed at around 300 feet (with 3 walls inbetween). ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! | For the last time LH your router has died, you got a dud. Go buy another DI-624, we have the rev C here at home and rev D at the office, both are doing great. ![]() Or if you don't want to trust D-Link again, pretty much anything other than linksys. I've also had good luck with installing Belkin routers for people. Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 Conroe @ 2.80GHz Cooler Master GeminII - Thanks Rich and HL! | Yeah, mines a Rev C, maybe I can pick up a Rev E. Really I just need a router with DynamicDNS, port froward and basic wireless capability. Thats essentially what the DI-624 did. Well, Looks like i'm picking a new one up! Opteron 64 165--1.5GB DDR--ECS KA1 MVP(thanks HL!)--x1800GTO 256MB--Seagate 320GB SATA--Antec 550 Watt--Antec P180 | ||||||||||||||

| Go for it, the DI-624 is still a great router. The rev. D down at the office had an uptime of 156 days last time I checked, its probably at 160 now.
