Lightbulb Re: help setup wireless home network Netgear

Mary, from what I have read I would suggest replacing the 624 with the 824 unit if you can. The 824 unit will act as the Internet router that the 624 does while providing more security, at least according to Netgear. Trying to run two wireless units would create more complication as you would have to configure two different connections for your PC, one to each. Then you would have to make sure that both Netgear units are not stepping on each others signals and yet can still talk to each other which means you would need an Ethernet cable to run the span.

If you need to have both units active, I can try and help you with the IP configuration. You would make one wireless unit the brains giving out all the DHCP info and the other unit would just act like a network connections. I have an article that in currently being edited that may help as well when it is published.

Hopefully that at least gives you the beginning of an answer or at least grounds for more questions.

Roger

Default Re: help setup wireless home network Netgear

Great!
Yea thats what I got from Netgear info too. The 824 is using Avanquest. I am using Sytem Care Professional (Avanquest). It has Network Magic software. I've found some info on setting up the network. I'm just a bit gutt-less and hate to do things wrong. I'm now trying to see if I should update the firmware on the 624 before I go ahead and build the network. I don't know if the latest will include prior updates. I look forward to reading your article.
