Default Going nuts here....

OK, I have a little network setup here. I use PC 1 as a dial-up server. I use PC 2 to browse the web and conduct secure transactions. All of a sudden, PC 2 will not connect to the net but will connect to PC 1 for file transfers. PC 1 can connect to net. That is how I am here now.

I have tried to repair both network connections. I have used XP TCP/IP repair tool on both machines. My browser is not set to work offline. I double checked the XP firewall's settings. ICS sharing is still enabled. Any Ideas?

Guess I stumped you guys on this one huh?

It's fixed.

I deleted the internet connection and made a new one. For some odd ball reason, that worked.

Not stumped, its just saturday.

Something probably happened to the connection, corrupted the settings, and it went back to default. Making a new connection is usually the first thing I do troubleshoot after renewing the IP and other basic stuff.

Sounds like the driver may have become corrupted. Deleting it and reinstalling it was a good choice to troubleshoot. One thing you can do it try and ping 127.0.0.1, this is the loopback adapter address. If you can't ping it then things are really screwy.

Anyway, glad it is working again.

I did ping it and it responded. I could access my shared folders on internet PC from my main pc but it would not let my main PC on the net. Weird. Another problem I am having is I have to redial the net about 5 times before anything can access it. I have tried to dial a few diff ISP numbers but all act the same way. Has to be an ISP issue.

ICS in Windows XP is crap. Every time I have had to use it, I had issues with it. It would just stop working for no reason. With Dial-up you really don't have any other choice.
