| Colonel Calamity | So how about someone reverse engineer these "botnets" and force the systems to get the windows updates that patches these vulnerabilities... it will not only help with the spam problem but also help speed everyones internet traffic up. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! | BAM-BAM | How about we go old school and start using letters, stamps, and the telephone? About as likely as your scenario, because once you get one finger in the dike, another leak will spring from somwhere else! -1 |

| Colonel Calamity | how? 95% of infected machines can be fixed by simply downloading and installing the needed windows updates. The rest (which is still a large number of PCs) will need an antivirus program installed to scan and protect the computers. Even something simple and small and open source like ClamAV will help reduce the damage or infection. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! | Colonel Calamity | nope My firewall reports everything and blocks unknown inbound or outbound traffic. I would know about it. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! My opinions are my own and not representative of this site or its members. |

| BAM-BAM | so you dont think that the top minds in China or the US have a way to get around your network? I maybe bordering on paranoia here but I think it would be naive to think that we are toally safe from all internet attacks. -1 |

| Colonel Calamity | With proper firewalls in place and a properly patched system, there would be little chance of them getting in... but on the flip side, there really would be no point for them to as they are looking for corporate and government networks to tap into. As the story was about individual users' computers being compromised, I do know mine is safe against those attacks and attempts. Combine the NAT hardware firewall with Comodo software firewall and there is no chance for any current threat to get in... aside from some specially trained hacker that wouldn't even bother with a home user's IP. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair!
