Default anyone have a D-link?

Yup i'm stumped at getting this wireless network running, i recently bought a D-link DSL-2740B wireless router for my PC for the home to use (and for Xbox live).

everythings set up and the router works fine, this is where the problem arrives. now my router will work on my PC and i can connect to the internet fine, but none of my other computers seem to be able to get on the net even though they have been connected to the routers signal output.

upon looking at my wireless cards settings it says for the router:

Tom's Router, Status: Connected
Bytes sent: (differs but around 207mbs)
Bytes recieved: 0

now i'm stumped as to why i'm not recieving any bytes.

all the wireless cards are 801.11G and the router can be set to give out 801.11G, 801.11B 801.11NG and 801.11A.

after trying to access my router (192.168.1.1) it appears i can no longer get into the routers settings (like on a web page the page won't load for the routers inbuilt site).

does anyone have any ideas of how to get this thing working? i paid good money for it and don't want to see it wasted.

my d-link DIR-625's ip is 192.168.0.1 so i dont know about that .1.1 at the end of yours, but my router did that once (it wouldnt let me into the settings).

first and foremost, it may seem like a "stupid person" comment, but don't take it that way, make sure the computer you are using to connect to the router has a sure connection to the router, preferably a wired one, cuz if its in your room, there is no point in using wireless for 5 feet, wired is better anyway.

now, did you recently upgrade your firmware? my bust for no settings happened right after i upgraded my firmware on the router, and i simply couldn't get in, there was just no page. sadly the only thing that solved this for me (after waiting and trying for 3 months) was a windows reformat, oddly enough. when i went to my browser and put it in, bang, the new 1.08 firmware i uploaded worked perfect and i was in the settings in no time.

as aforementioned, it could simply be a connectivity problem, so make sure you rule that out before taking any other steps.

now, in terms of shear wireless signal connectivity, within the settings themselves if it's not enabled to be G and N, or just G, or whatever you need (obviously you need at least G) then nothing will happen. it won't be giving out "G" signals for the other cards to read. i have a funny feeling that G isnt enabled which is why none of the cards are getting internet.

if you didn't already, hook up the router to modem, and then just one wire to your computer (it should most definitely work no matter the settings) and if it does, try to enter the settings again, and then let us know.

good luck my friend.

thanks for the responce, you said something about firmware, my computer as far as i know, hasn't had any upgrade to firmware.

if what happened to me happened to you to which when i access 192.168.1.1 (which is the gateway ip for this router) it just loads a blank white page.

i can connect to the internet fine as i'm doing so now using it, the only thing i need to do i get into the routers setting and alter some things like you told me to, which i can't at the moment due to that blank page. i've also tried this on the downstairs PC to get onto the routers settings and still a blank screen.

i've reset the router, turned it off and on, unplugged and re-plugged the wires and still nothing....lol

thanks for your help, i'll try and give your advice a go and see what happens

EDIT: yes my router is wired to my PC, but will be wired to my dads when i've fixed it so i can use my wireless card since its his router.

i've got an adsl cable from the router to my phone line and a network cable from the router to my PC.

Ok Neo, first thing is, there is a button on the back of your router that you will have to use a wire or a paper clip straitened out to push. This little hidden button restores the router to the factory defaults.

But before doing the above, try this first.
Shut down all of your computers
Then shut your router and Broadband modem down.
Unplug the network cable from your modem and let it set for about a minute.
now do these in order
1 plug your broadband modem in and let it complete its start up cycle.
2 now plug your router in and let it complete the start up cycle.
After both the modem and router are completely started, turn on the computer that is connected to the router via the network cable, and then attempt to log into the router with the default gateway IP.

Since you have internet, have you tried accessing your router companies web site. I would try that and see if they might have any suggestions. Or try a complete restart again. This time, I would only hook up one computer at a time. Maybe one of your computers is causing the problem. JM.02

also, verify whether or not the router is "seeing" your other computers from the one that's wired to the router.....if you don't see any other computers listed in your network listing (or at the "My Computer" screen if you've enabled file-sharing), like everyone else is pretty much saying, check your signal compatibility setting for your adapter to make sure it's set to send and receive the appropriate signal, though it should be auto-sensing, but it never hurts to double-check. However, if everything appears normal there, then you can go to start>run> and then type winipcfg to bring up a box with all the adapter's info (MAC address, IP address, default gateway, etc.).......from there, you can release the adapter, and then renew it to see if it actually checks for an IP addy.......if not, then something could be amiss with the router. Good luck man, for network issues are always a PITA, lol
