Default About Ether Ports

I have a question.. when you have another computer who uses the modem/router.. and plugged that to the main computer, my cousin has a long ether port that goes all the way to the basement, and when we plugged it in, nothing happened. What exactly are the cons? or troubleshoot could there be?

Or, can someone tell me how to set it up once you plug in to the computer with the ethernet port.

I am a little confused by the term Ethernet port. I think you mean a Ethernet cable running between rooms. Is one end plugged into the router and the other the computer or is your cousins computer plugged into yours? What type of cable and what are on the ends?

If it is plugged into the router you can take your computer downstairs and plug it in. If it works it is the machine, if not than it is the cabling. The rule of testing with a known good.

Make sure that the cable is less than 100yrds and does not run near electrical cable to keep the signal from getting fried. It should work if done right, but it is not as easy and doing telephone wire.

The more specific you can be the more I can help you. Pictures and drawings can help too. You should be able to do it, just realize there might be some learning curve to it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Actually its 100 meters, I know it's only a difference of 28 feet but there are situations where that 28 feet make all the difference in the world. However a 100 meters should be more then enough for the average home.

Mysterio The wording you're using is a little confusing. I can't tell if you have your cousins computer plugged into the Router or a different computer. If it's plugged into a different computer then I suggest plugging it into the router. Please be more specific on your details, so we can give you the best solution for your situation.

Yea, I know.. when I read it, I got confused as well, I mind as well start from the top again.

The main computer is running through the modem. The router is connect to the 2nd computer, but when I connected the ethernet to the 2nd computer, nothing happens, I also didn't check if it Sents or Receives LED light on the router though.

Uh i'm still not sure what you're trying to do.
From how you explained, this is what I can see:

INTERNET--->---MODEM--->---COMPUTER1

ROUTER--->---COMPUTER2

So obviously computer1 has internet, but where does the router get it's internet from? :S

Computer 1 has Modem & Router. The router has the ethernet port that connects to the 2nd computer from top floor to basement.

Computer 2 has the ethernet plugged in.

Dude draw a picture, because what you are saying makes no sense.

Your network should look something like this.

*Edit, yea its like that* Above Post

If you still don't understand, I'll try it again.

The 2nd computer's internet is not working at all because the router (which is the 1st computer) isn't sending and packets, so the 2nd computer is not receiving or sending.

What? Are both computers connected to the Router, or are they connected together?

Computer 1 should only have router.

It should be like on Hitman drawing. Basicly you're saying it is like on Hitman drawing but in this post it seems like both the modem and the router are connected to COMPUTER1

Recapitulation

INTERNET
|
MODEM
|
ROUTER --->--- COMPUTER1
|
COMPUTER2

So, Internet to modem, modem to router WAN port, other router ports to 2 computers.
