Default Temps when overclocking

It seems i never see a guide about temps when overclocking. I see people say you have a good temp, but what do you consider a good temp. I know most people say use a program like TAT for the temp, but are probs less accurate then the software??

Right now my c2d is running 34c with the water cooling. I havent even started over clocking it because im worried about what temp is to high.

So can people post what they consider to high, so i can get a feel what i should stay below.

INTEL Core 2 Duo E6600 Processor
EVGA 122-CK-NF68 nForce 680i SLI MOBO
2GB Giel PC2-6400 Memory

Thermaltake Toughpower 750w Power supply

I would say as long as your under 50c you're still in good shape. Keep in mind that room temp has allot to do with your system temps.

Yep, Hitman is right. To me, anything under 50 is good. Most people use either TAT or Coretemp to read their temperatures but a real temperature probe or sensor may work just as well.

I remember reading that TAT and Coretemp reading from an internal sensor in the processor thats why the numbers are more accurate but I'm not sure about the validity of this.

I Like Watercooling. D-Tek Fuzion, MCP655, MCR220

lets just say that my E6400 under full load right now runs at 55șC but I am RMA it due to the concave plate over the cores.. it should be MUCH cooler with the giant hsf I have

Thanks HL and Corsair!

That being said between 30c and 40c is normal for most newer CPUs and HSFs. I have seen guys post temps under 30c with watercooling but most are in the low 30's c. Your realistic goal should be under 40c.

yup, 50c is the max i shoot for. keep in mind your C2D temps should never be run over 61c for extended periods of time

I am curious as to the why on this. The Core2 is rated all the way up to 85c.

Under 50 full loads seems good enough. ;)

The max temp for the E6600 is 60.1*C. I run mine at 3.375Ghz and 1.325V as read by CPU-z. At 100% load on both cores and a CNPS9500, I'm getting 50-51*C. For my personal tastes, I will run my CPU 24/7 to within 10% of the upper limit. So 60.1 - 6.1 = 54*C. As long as I stay under that, I'm happy.

Each person is going to have to work with what they feel comfortable with.

Q6600@ 3.2GHz w/ CNPS9700 | EVGA 780i | 2Gb Corsair DDR2-800 | EVGA GTX 280 1Gb Video | 1x WD 640Gb HDD, 2x Seagate 400Gb HDD, 1x250Gb WD | 2x Samsung SH-203B Opticals | Antec 900 | ABS/Tagan BZ700 700W PSU

Okay so you are saying that after running ITAT for 1 hour if the temp is above 54C then back it down?

Right now my system at 2.7Ghz with stock cooling and voltage is peeking at 65C, hovers closer to 64C most of the time. After a full 3 hours of Supcom it was peeaking only at 53C during play.
