Default Super Pi / Orthos

I raised my FSB to 343, which raises my CPU to 2.4GHz, and changed my memory multiplier from auto to 2.66 which brought my RAM to 900-910MHz or something. anyway does using super pi and orthos test both RAM and CPU ?

When you run Super Pi when it finishes it just stops, does that mean it passed? Also when running Blend Test on Orthos, my temps are going pretty high, do your temps ever get that high with normal use (gaming, net, music etc)?
Or does Orthos stress the CPU more, than if your just using your PC?

EDIT::: All I did was raise the CPU FSB and change the memory multiplier so my ram wasn't running high. That's all I need to do to OC the CPU isn't it?

to test the CPU for stability I run Orthos for 12 hrs (Small FFTs or Gromacs test), as you are wanting to test the whole system, I'd run the "Blend" test (Default) for at least 3-4 hours (longer if you want......run it overnight).

As to Super Pi, it will say "Pi calculation is done". If there is a problem, you'll see it say something like "Not exact in round", or something other than "Pi calculation is done". also, at the top of the test, it will say something like "19 Iterations" (1M) or "24 Iterations" (32M), if it stops after 7-8 iterations, then you know there is a problem.

OK thanks :)

Im running Orthos Blend Test on Priority 10. The temps are staying around 50-55 degrees celcius (been on for about 10 mins). I f i leave it overnight will orthos stop if it gets too hot or will it just overheat and explode?

I believe the CPU has a temp threshold, so if the CPU gets too hot, the computer will shut down itself.

Orthos will only stop if it finds an error.

SuperPi is more of a benchmark, but 32M is a decent test of stability too.

When I woke up it had stopped at around 6 and a half hours, so I clicked the orthos window and it closed. Is that what it's supposed to do? Umm so is that good enough to keep the OC?

Was it frozen when you looked at it? Or was it still going? The only time Orthos would stop is when it freezes, an error, or you tell it to. If it was frozen or an error, it's not good enough.

It was flashing orange on the toolbar/startbar like stuff does so I cliked it and it closed...an error i guess then. So do I just lower the FSB and test again?

Yep, or raise the voltage, but WATCH THE TEMPS VERY CAREFULLY if you do that.

If it errored out, then your options are to either lower the speed until it is stable again or increase the voltage until it is stable again. Lowering the speed is the safer bet and should always bring back stability at some point (even if you have to go back to stock). But increasing the voltage on the other hand WILL increase your temperatures, shorten the lifespan of the part, and not always bring back stability. If you have to go more than 7% - 10% over stock voltage and it isn't stable, then either your processor is not capable of such a speed at all (ever), or something else is the bottleneck (perhaps RAM, motherboard, or heat).
