Default Q6600 stepping models

I'm about to order a Q6600 and I'm somewhat interested in overclocking. Is it just a matter of luck whether I'll get the GO or the B3 model?

In most cases yes, but many seller have run out of the B3 stepping models, so you have a pretty good chance of getting a G0. To guarentee it, you can order it from Clubit or Tankguys.

EDIT: But really if you are going to OC it anyway, you are probably better off getting a lower clock quad-core like the X3210. Better for the money, and you get the benefit of a server-grade part! Read through this thread to find out more: Want Quad Core? Get the G0 X3210

I ordered a Xeon 3210 from ZZF like 2 weeks ago and got a B3. It is running prime stable at 3.2ghz with 1.4V. It crushes 3DMark06 CPU bench....

and Tankguys, many of their products are in "backorder" status, I remember waiting a month for my E6400 to come in stock and I finally canceled my order once like every other retailer had them.. It's like yeah they will take your money and hold it while they order your part and make you wait, that is what happened to me....

It's guarenteed G0 from Tankguys. And what temps are you getting?

I'm pretty new to this, and the primary goal is to get something that'll let me run games for next 18 months or so. OCing is just (potentially) icing on the cake. Are there any other potential implications besides the mobo to getting the X3210 over the Q6600? I've got the Asus P5K-E on my "to-buy" list now. Theoretically that'll handle the X3210 as well as the Q6600, but anyone have any experience with this or comments?

ClubIT also has the GO

This is an excellent article describing the difference between Go & B3.

So can the PK5-E handle the higher FSB required to get the same overclock out of the lower mulitplier on the x3210?
