Default Problems trying to OC Q2D 6600 and nForce 680i

I'm not quite sure what is going on here... Even if I try to increase the FSB by just a little bit, I get.. "Warning! Now System is in Safe Mode." and if I press F1 and just continue, CPU-Z tells me that I'm still running at 2.40 GHz and etc. Any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks.

Are you trying to OC in Windows or in BIOS?

And it's a Core 2 Quad (C2Q) btw

What BIOS are you using? You may get better results if you upgrade to the latest BIOS your board can support.

I loaded the defaults and flashed to P31 (I believe that's the newest)

Check out this thread on the EVGA forums. By far the best written overclocking guide specific to this mobo that I've seen. Once you read through that, if you still have a problem, let me know. I've overclocked my Q6600 on my 680i for the last 6 months or so. Could only hit 3.1GHz stably though.

The reason I need you to look through that thread and make sure you've done everything listed there is it saves me from having to ask you a hell of a lot of questions.

BTW, I see you've now posted you flashed to P31. By and large, the majority of folks have much better luck using P30. Myself included. P31 simply sucks.

Ok i will give that a try. I went through some other guides that I saw with no success, but maybe this one will be different.

If the P30 BIOS doesn't do it for you, EVGA has released the P32 BIOS you might want to try: 680i SLI - P32 BIOS Released

No, don't use P32. It's even worse than P31 was. P30 is the best for Quads and P31 is the best for Dual's.

Ok so I went through the guide you suggested.. I no longer get that message when booting up, however CPU-Z says I have a Core Speed of 2000.0 Mhz, x6.0 multiplier, Bus Speed of 333.3 MHz, and a Rated FSB of 1333.4MHz (I set FSB to 1333 to try and up it to 3 GHz). When I fire up NVIDIA Monitor, it shows a CPU core of 8.949 MHz and says 1.#IO for FSB and Memory MHz, it also doesn't show any of the voltages. Kind of confused at the moment.

Edit:
So should I flash back to P30?
