Default P4-631 OC

Well I pieced together another rig. Paul came over and we added a better PSU. We had some fun testing the OC capability on this rig with just a stock intel cpu cooler (for now). We were limited in time so we didn't get too fancy but it is running fine on a basic 40% OC.

PC Specs:
MB: Asus P5WD2-E Premium
CPU: Intel P4 631 Cedar Mill (65nm)
RAM: OCZ DDR2-800 (5-5-5-12)
HDD: Seagate SATA2 320GB
PSU: 500w Seasonic M12 Modular
COOLING: 3 intake, 3 exhaust fans (all 80mm except the 120mm exhaust on top), stock Intel cpu cooler.

For the listed chart we left it at stock voltage (1.3). While the speed of the RAM was adjusted, we have not tightened the timings yet. When I get a better CPU cooler in the future we will really see what this can do. At that time we will increase the voltage and tighten the timings. I'll post that at a later date... anyway... here are the results:

Very nice work! I would be worried about that loaded 81*C temp though.

Yeah, I don't really plan on pushing it until I get a better cpu cooler.

I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

Just a tad - we chucked that reather weight Chiefmax 680W (with 50A on the +5V...can we say marketing) and replaced it with the hefty Seasonic M12-500. Framerates didn't quadruple, but his PC sent me a very nice thank-you note afterwards, saying he felt much more energetic.

Not ideal in the slightest, but being a P4, I have a lot less concern than if it were a Core 2 processor. The next step though is definitely getting an aftermarket cooler and forging ahead. With a minor voltage bump, there's more headroom in that processor, and we're both curious how far it will go. And tweaking the RAM is also on the agenda, we just ran into a time factor yesterday.

All fun stuff, and our resident 5 Minute Mod Man is turning into quite the astute OCer!
