Default Overclocking & hot Summer

Alright, so this weekend has been pretty hot, its about 80-90ish degrees in my room and my CPU temp has obviously gone up in heat as well. So here is the deal, under a full load, my E8400 is going up to 50C-51C While on a cooler day, it would go to 41C-40C on a full load. This is at stock, 3.0GHZ.

Would over clocking it be a bad idea since its already hot right now with the weather? or are these still acceptable temperatures for a full load?

Thanks for any input :) (and if i were to overclock, to say 3.8-4.2 ghz range, what would be the new target full load temp?)

if you're looking at 50+ now then its time for better cooler or an AC in that room

yeah ill turn the ac on then. So 50 is too high hu.. The cooler is the zerotherm one its in my spec and all.. maybe i should change the antec 900 case fan speeds from low to medium/high? the cpu cooler is on high

Edit: so yeah my room is the hottest in the house, it is literally 10degrees hotter then any other room in this house (top floor too)

it typically stays around 80ºF in my computer room most of the time but during the summer it can see around 85... even at these temps with my E6600 at 2.9GHz, I still only see 42-43ºC full load during the summer

Ya my room's always hovering over 70 too unless AC/Fans are on, my dad attributes it to my desktop, laptop, 35inch SDTV (old tube Sony), and Halogen lights lol.

I don't mean this to sound like it will sound :)

Cool the room. I know that's not always an option, but you can basically add every ambient degree right on to your temps and you will also put your PSU through undue stress. And don't be fooled if you manage to get better CPU temps from a better cooler. Sure - the CPU is cooler - and that's good - but the rest of the system suffers - that includes the PSU which will have to run the fan at a higher RPM and work harder just to give the same juice it can give at a lower case temp.

All the fancy cooling in the world can't compete with a cooler room when you really look closely at every component.

Not trying to say better CPU cooling doesn't have value - it does. But if you want - and are into - real performance - especially overclocking, the ambient temperature in the computer room means more. Oh sure - you might be able to get some brag racing scores from an unstable system, but real performance requires having a real computing environment. And that environment should be between 60-80 F at all times. The cooler the better.

Just IMO - hot rooms are a button pusher for me. I don't mean to sound harsh - I know it costs money to keep a room cool.

Besides, I wouldn't worry too much about E8XXX series temps over E6XXX series. They're not the same at all, and although they run much cooler than the E6XXX series you'll get higher value from CoreTemp. Take all of that with a grain of salt, I've been running mine full load at ~60C for a while already, OC'ed to 4Ghz with arguably one of the best air coolers around in a 25C/77F and lower (usually lower) room temp... Even at stock load temps were "atrocious" albeit a tad lower.

If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you?

Ermmmm...... my proc "idles" at those temps..
But this is with the stock cooler, when I get my watercooling stuff going then it'll be a lot cooler.

Anything under 60c is good for me.

Speaking of the Antec 900's Tri-Cool fans, you'll likely find that turning them to medium has a negligible effect on sound.
