| Relativity is fun!
| So, i've been toying around with my new abit board, since my gigabyte board is currently out of use (not even sure it will be in use again, probably gonna sell it, to be honest), and I've come to several conclusions. First off, this board (an ABIT FP-IN9 Fatal1ty, 650i) doesn't like high fsb's nearly as much as my p965 board does. It'll post sometimes at 400fsb, but it just doesn't seem to like runnign good there, even with plenty of extra voltage to it. Might have to try turning off some cpu features to see if i can coax some more out of it, but I'm letting it chill at 350mhz. Second, mushkin ram really doesn't overclock that well in gigabyte boards (or at least p965 boards). The same ram that wouldn't like to overclock at all in my other board is running pretty happily at 933mhz with 5-5-5-12 timings, and just a little extra voltage. Anyone else have much experience overclocking with these boards? I'd like to more out of my cpu, but I'm just not getting much once I try getting at the 400+ area. Gonna have to mess around with the settings more (I'm on the newest bios already). e6300@3.33ghz|Asus P5k-e WiFi| 4gb OCZ ReaperX|2x 3870's|1.3tb storage space|MSI tv tuner. | ||||||||||||||

| Right now I have: vcore:1.35v ddr2:2.1v refv:auto (0.0%) vtt:1.31v Northbridge:1.4v And at these speeds I'm getting 2.625 ghz for the e6300, which isn't too bad, although not as nice as what I had with the gigabyte board, but the ram is chuggign along at 1000hmz with 5-5-5-12 timings... which is just blowing my mind, since it would barely do 850mhz with the gigabyte board. e6300@3.33ghz|Asus P5k-e WiFi| 4gb OCZ ReaperX|2x 3870's|1.3tb storage space|MSI tv tuner. | ||||||||||||||

| there is a point where you'll have to raise voltages exponentially just to get a few more MHz from your chip. once you find that point, that's usually a good place to stop. if you think your chip have more to offer and raising vcore isnt' providing stability, try small, incremental bumps in NB and VTT voltages, one at a time. just remember to monitor temps and don't raise VTT very much. i would suggest not going past 1.4 vtt and 1.6 nb. | ||||||||||||||

| Yeah, the mobo won't even post with vtt past 1.4v. Haven't tried 1.6v with the northbridge though.... 1.5v wasn't doing much for it though. I'll try some more later... don't have much else to do with this blizzard, lol. e6300@3.33ghz|Asus P5k-e WiFi| 4gb OCZ ReaperX|2x 3870's|1.3tb storage space|MSI tv tuner. | ||||||||||||||

| Hmm, I'm running with the vcore at 1.58v, and the vtt at 1.39, I think it was. Ram set back to 800mhz. Seems to be stable for orthos with the small fft's test, but the blend test is still giving errors... which is kinda lame. Time for more tweaking! e6300@3.33ghz|Asus P5k-e WiFi| 4gb OCZ ReaperX|2x 3870's|1.3tb storage space|MSI tv tuner. | ||||||||||||||

I would watch on the vcore, that awfully a lot. You shouldn't have to go much over the 1.4v to get a 2.6Ghz OC. I know that up from 2.65Ghz or so most E6300 will top out and necessitate a damned lot of voltage if you want to increase the frequency just a tidbit. ![]() If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. | Wow, I typed that wrong. I meant the northbridge was at 1.58v. I've since backed that way down, to 1.4 I think. And this chip was running along at 2.8ghz with 1.35 v in my other mobo, so I don't think it's that. and I'm just not thinking it's the memory itself, since with the fsb at 375 and the ram at 1000mhz, with 5-5-5-12 timings, it runs great, no errors on anything, but at 400mhz fsb and 800mhz ram, it fails the blend. I'm just starting to think this mobo has a fsb limit somewhere between 375 and 400mhz... I'll have to just mess with it to see where the actual cap is. e6300@3.33ghz|Asus P5k-e WiFi| 4gb OCZ ReaperX|2x 3870's|1.3tb storage space|MSI tv tuner. | ||||||||||||||

| Well, I got some new ram today to try in this mobo. My friend had some ocz reaper x memory, and an msi mobo, and because his msi mobo requires ram be in slots 1 and 2 for dual channel instead of 1 and 3, well, it just didn't fit. Due to the massive heatsinks and all. So I have some nice pc-8000 rated ram to play with... we'll see how it works tonight, and I might even right up some sort of review for it too, while I'm at it. Sexy ram though. e6300@3.33ghz|Asus P5k-e WiFi| 4gb OCZ ReaperX|2x 3870's|1.3tb storage space|MSI tv tuner. | ||||||||||||||
