Default Overclock on a KA3 MVP

Since a few weeks I have been traying to achieve an overclock higher than 2.35 ghz but till now everything beyond that point wont work.

To achieve the 2.35ghz i have set the vcore to 1.35v, raised the vdimm, lower the ram from 667mhz down to 400mhz.... I have proof pretty much every configuration i know (have to let clear that i am new in this matter) thats the main reason why i am asking for help.

Thanks in advance!!

Here's a guide written about OCing AMD CPU's by HL: ThunDA's AMD Overclocking Guide

Hopefully that helps!!

Weird. The specs in your sig is your rig?

I have pretty much same specs as you except I have 2GB DDR2-800 G.Skill ram.. I managed to get my X2 3800+ all the way to 2.7GHz from 2.0GHz... I can even boot into 2.8GHz but the CPU gets too hot on the stock cooling. I am running it now at 2.6GHz @ 1.3v

Go into the bios and check whats your vDIMM voltage. I know for me, it for some reason lowered my memory's voltage down by .2v which caused some instability. I raised it up to default and it was more stable.

yellowhello, most OCing guides don't really apply to the KA3 MVP board because it has a lot of limitations in voltage and memory timings. Their first bios does not allow for timing modification. They released a newer bios in jan of 2007 which fixed the issue.

Oh, Ghost Rider, did you try lowering the LDT multiplier to like 3x (which is 600MHz in the bios)?

Did it and same story, proof all the voltages configurations, also lower the LTD to 3x and the max i can get is 240FSB.

Can it be the ram wich i am using? Or maybe the video card?

I also have the lastest Bios from ECS.

Thanks!!

i don't think the video card is a related issue.............

It might be your RAM. If AMD CPU's have RAM dividers, set it so that RAM is running half of the FSB (or the AMD equivalent).

I'm an Intel guy, so forgive me if I seem like I don't know what I'm talking about.

Are you using value ram? That may be an issue.

For OCing I lowered my memory's divider from 800MHz to 667, and to get to 2.6-2.8 I had to lower it to 533 :( It still runs fast though.

I am also assuming you turned off cool 'n' quiet? You might need to increase your NB's voltage possibly. Also, whats the TDP on your X2? I have the EE 65w version which might be a reason why I got a good overclock. All OCs I seen with the 89w version only got like a 10-15% OC. The KA3 really has some voltage problems that if worked out would make the KA3 a very nice board.

Yes i´m using Kingston Value Ram and i have the EE 65w version of the x2, and also have turned off cool ´n´ quiet. I have heard that this brand of ram is not very good for oc.
I´m thinking that maybe with better ram for example a Corsair Dominator PC-6400 will do a better job! I guess that, with the right Ram I would hit around the 2.6-2.7ghz.
