| When you have the FSB and/or voltage raised for the cpu overclock, is the motherboard itself also overclocked? I know that memory and GPU oc's are their own issues, but I was just wondering about the board itself. Also, does a cpu - and/or memory oc - affect the overall speed of a hdd? If it's not fixed, then don't broke it! |

| I'm Evil | Nothing you really do is going to speed up your HDD. HDD are, and always have been, the biggest bottleneck in a system. The newer SATA II drives with 16MB cache, and SATA 3.0GB/s transfer speeds are much improved over older drives. When overclocking, you want to OC everything together, by pushing one component you will create bottlenecks elswhere. When it comes to the motherboard, its basically just the base of the system. Every setting is really just a control for different installed components, as well as communication between the different components. I think its about time we worked on a good overclocking guide, something that explains overclocking, as well as gives people a good step by step process to follow INTEL QX9650 ASUS P5E3 Premium 4GB DDR3-1600 Sapphire HD 3870X2 Danger Den Tower-26 (Custom W/C) 5 x Seagate 250GB HDD in RAID5 BFG ES 800W PSU |

| The Real Final Word | As Capper said, the hard drive will not increase in speed as you overclock your system, however, I have noticed that when I run Vista, my SATA 2 drive is noticeably quicker! I think that MS did implement more usage and speed with the new OS. |

About an overclocking guide - should it be comprised of general techniques to get a stable overclock, or should it be more comprehensive? By that I mean, would it be a good idea for people to contribute a step-by-step list of what they did to achieve their own oc for people to use as a reference? What about how to address different motherboards and BIOSes? If it's not fixed, then don't broke it! | |

| I'm Evil | No, its going to be an actuall guide that walks people through the steps they should take when overclocking.....it needs to be pretty thorough as there are several different technical levels present on the board.....meaning that something I explain to you might not make any sense to someone else INTEL QX9650 ASUS P5E3 Premium 4GB DDR3-1600 Sapphire HD 3870X2 Danger Den Tower-26 (Custom W/C) 5 x Seagate 250GB HDD in RAID5 BFG ES 800W PSU |
