Default OC'n my 6800

Hey, I recently downloaded nTune from nVidia and I wanted to see what I could get from OC'n my 6800 a tiny bit.
So STOCK speed is 485/1100 GPU/Mem and I used nVidia Monitor to log the temp (in °C) every 30 seconds while running 3Dmark05 3 times @
1024 x 768
no AA
Optimal filtering
VS and PS target @ 3_0 (whatever that means, lol)

At stock speeds, it scored 3791.
At slight overclock speed, it scored 5875 and 5915 (I tested it 2 times to make sure there was no fluke)

And the temperatures came back as:
Stock speed: Max 96 , average was about 89.
Slight Overclock (495/1110): Max 113 , average was about 105.

Now, I know this might sound like a dumb question, but is ~20°C increase in temp gonna cause any problems in my GPU/card. Will it cause any physical damage, or will it just have a chance to crash?

I'll run the monitor again while playing World In Conflict (most graphically demanding game I have ATM) and maybe STALKER too.

thx for helping a new bean @ overclocking his GPU =P

just look out for and stange graphics. Green dots, odd lighting, white blobs, anything that wasnt there before. If you see and strange things, turn it back, its getting too hot.
Im not sure what temps are ment to be for that card but 20* sounds alot. How much was this slight oc? Sounds like a nice increse

lol sorry, meant to post that too.
OC'd it to 495/1110

I just ran WiC beta, and the max temp went to 110.

The "warning shutdown threshold" in my nVidia panel was set to 135°C, which meant it would warn me audibly when that happened.

So I think I can keep it safely at 495/1110 and not worry about that.

ALso, I think there is a bunch of dust inside the heatsink, so next time it is a hot day I can clean that out =P

last time I found a huge dust bunny in it.

wow, a small overclock gave you a huge boost in scores and temps. I'd google and cheak the temps. 110*c sounds CRAZY to me. The 8800 goes up to 89*c

Are you sure those are your actual clocks? a 10Mhz boost on the core, and 100MHz on the ram bearly nets me 80 more points in 3D Mark...

Also, your GPU life will be significantly reduced if you run it at those temps all the time. A 6800 shouldn't run over 60-70*C, even OCed. It might be a good idea to clean your sink of dust.

I have had three different 6800GT's at one time or another. Two of them died due to overclocking. If you're gonna overclock your card, get a good aftermarket cooler for it.

do you think I should get a bitchin-ass high end cooler and OC it more?

or just a low end cooler to lower the temps.

The warranty is way void, its been like 1.5+ years since I got it.

quick question. If I encounter problems, how do I reset the clock values w/o doing nTune?

Can I just unplug it and wait for a discharge? or is it perma-clocked at that speed?

I think I'll get this one:
Newegg.com - ZALMAN VF900 – CU 2 Ball VGA Cooler - Retail
But I dunno when I can get it. Probably not for a while. So I'm gonna take that review's advice and clean out my HS and then just wait till I get some $$$ to buy a vga cooler

Now thats what puts me off overclocking my x800. I just dont know. Is there an option to go back to stock when you reboot? With v-tuner you can unlock it so you run in OC speeds only when in windows, and back to stock any other time.
