Default OC'ing tips for E6600 setup please

screwball, i know you got the same Mobo as mine, i got a DS3 Rev.3 (i think)
i need some OCing tips...

and what is the normal temp of this E6600 with a Zalaman9700led?

i have a 43-47C Idle and 57-60C Full Load with Orthos Stress and TAT workload at 100%... I'm using a Zalman Super Thermal Grease...

my specs are Gigabyte DS3 Rev. 3
C2D E6600
Xms2 DDR2 800 2gb (2x1gb dual channel)
EVGA8800gts

i'm more on CPU OC, im not particular with VC OC...

and is my Newegg.com - Antec True Power Trio TP3-550 550W Power Supply with Three 12V Rails - Retail better than my old Newegg.com - Antec NeoHE 500 500W Power Supply - Retail which apparently i gave to my brother? i think its sucking the cool air away from my CPU...
i also got a Antec SmartPower2.0 at 450w i don't know if this thing is better than the True Power I got...

Default Re: hey sup guys

I have the Rev 2.0 (unfortunately).
Any of those Antecs at 550W should be fine.... as the heat rises off of the CPU, it would pull into and out of the PSU anyways.

Sounds like either too much or not enough thermal paste. Those E6600 especially with that cooler should be running at 35-40ºC idle and up to 50ºC under load provided the room temp that the computer is in is not above 85ºF or so. If the room is 85+ then I can see those temps being the norm.
My computer room tends to stay around 80ºF and my E6400 with the messed up plate still runs at 38ºC idle and 60ºC+ (I have seen as high as 66 for a few seconds) with TAT or rthdrbl or orthos at 100%. Right now I am folding with a client that doesn't completely send this cpu balls to the wall so it typically sits at 53-55ºC according to TAT.

Once you get the stock temps fixed, then you can OC and take it to where at 100% in TAT would take you to 56-57 tops. If it goes much higher then cut it back 100 or so MHz.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

actually, i dropped the temp to 35-40C when i opened my window with the wind blowing towards the front of the computer at 41C, when my windows is closed my room temp is about 75-85C not really sure, i just guess coz it makes me sweat while sleeping, centralized heating system at my apartment...

so you mean that it is normal for my temp to go up like that due to room temp... i think my AS5 caked up, coz its a suspension, i tend not to you it coz it rises considerable higher than my ZM-STG1 thermal grease, maybe at 5-7C difference...

i also add a 120mm intake fan and changed my outake fan to TTthunderblades120mm... so 2 120mm coolermaster stock fans as intake then 1 TTthunderblases120mm outake plus the PSU big intake fan blowing from the bottom outwards...

is there some sort of guide on how to OC this lil monster...

btw, i metioned, i'm loving my Mystique Case with Blue LED logo... i got it for $70 at Closeout Compusa...

A couple big things.

1. you always have to remember ambient temps when talking about your cooling performance. An air cooled solution is only going to be as good as the air supplied to it. (A great example is my system today. It was 87F in my house today, and my CPU temp climbed to 46C idle)

2. The Zalman STG-Z1 thermal paste is very hard to screw up. For those of you who have never used it, you "paint" it on. It goes on very easily and very evenly....and the performance is very good.

I'm considering some OC options also for the E6600 setup. Ive got some Arctic I'm going to use to put it in place. When i first got the E6600 it was already attached to the Asrock. Since it arrived DOA i was never able to use it, should I add the Arctic or just use whats already on the CPU since its never really been used?

I got my E6600 today and got it installed now, it is running 100% both cores in TAT and after probably 20 minutes now, I have not seen anything higher than 55º yet and the ambient temp in this room is 81ºF. Even when the E6400 was at its best, after 2 minutes with both cores in TAT being worked at 100% it was over 60º easy.
Idle this E6600 is 33-36ºC

i got the same temp when i opened the window, apparently the culprit is the heating system hidden in the back of the wall where my comp is placed...

and yeah i just found out that i have DS3 Rev.3.3,
with the front door of the mystique close i get an idle of 36-41C when its open i get 33-37C With the window open...

i just wan to OC, but unfortunately i''m not familiar with this Bios...

OC on this BIOS is fairly easy... I'll be able to type more at home this afternoon
