| The first thing I do is go into the BIOS and crank up the FSB! I usually increase the FSB by 5 mhz and then stress test the system with one run of OCCT. Keep repeating that process until it becomes unstable. When it starts to get tipsy, there are several things you can do... 1. Increase the vcore. As you increase the fsb, your processor will need more juice. 2. Run your memory on a divider. This is what you do if you know its your ram that is limiting your overclock. there are tons of guides out there... ThunDA's AMD Overclocking Guide It's a great guide but in my opinion, if your just looking for a modest/medium overclock then those steps are unnecessary. ![]() I Like Watercooling. | I'm Evil | up the FSB in small increments.....remember to keep the memory between 200-217 so it stays within spec.....yuo do that by changing the divider.....Paul should be a big help here....he had that same board. You could probably jump to 250-260FSB with the memory divider set to 150 or 166, no problem INTEL QX9650 ASUS P5E3 Premium 4GB DDR3-1600 Sapphire HD 3870X2 Danger Den Tower-26 (Custom W/C) 5 x Seagate 250GB HDD in RAID5 BFG ES 800W PSU |

| This bios is confusing to me. Lots of settings, has something about 10% OC at the start of the advanced settings. Then as I go down it has cpu settings. I will get a screenshot program and see if I can take a screen of the bios to post. EDIT: Can't screenshot the bios. Well I'll look at it some more and maybe the little light in my head will go on. | socket 939 junkie | heres how i would do it. it takes a god aweful time, but its worth it. take your cpu and put it on a low divider (like 4 or 5) and the HTT link on a 1x multi. now start increasing the fsb by 5mhz. restart but run memtest86+ do this until you find the max speed of your ram. when you hit a wall you can either add more voltage, loosen the timings and or command rate. once you find the highest speed vs timings/ command timing, go back to the bios and reset the fsb to 200, return the cpu multi to 9x and put the ram on a 133 divider. now repeat the 5mhz process of testing, to find your cpu's max oc, increasing till you hit a wall. once you do youll have the option of increasing the voltage. make sure you keep an eye on temps. i generally stop adding voltage when 1 of 2 things happen. i start hitting 50-55c temps on my cpu or it takes a massive voltage increase (0.1v) to ov more. when you find the max oc for the cpu head back to thye bios and then combine the two maxes to find a nice balance, but ballance it more towards cpu speed. dont be afraid of memory dividers as bandwidth alone wont give you as much of an increase in performance as say 300mhz. if you wnt to know how to truly get into the opty overclocking experience, let me know and ill start writing what i did with mine and how i got there. just to let you know, optys oc like mad, but they get hot, especially if its a CCB1E stepping. a lot of that problem stems from the IHS (metal lid over the cpu) not having proper connection to the core. a lot of people will actually remove it however its not for the faint of heart and it will render any chance of rma impossible. however temps have improved by as much as 10-15c by doing this. your gonna love upping the FSB without having to add any voltage. i hit 2.5ghz before i had to add any voltage and i topped out at 2.6ghz (with my crappy CCBWE stepping) Q6600 @ 3.6ghz (400x9 @ 1.408v) Gigabyte X38-DQ6 2x2GB G-Skill DDR2 1000 @ DDR2 1066 5-5-5-15 2T 2.1v Visiontek HD4870 Seagate 7200.11 500GB 32MB Cache HDD Razer Barracuda AC1 Silverstone DA750 Samsung Dual Layer DVD Burner Lian Li G70WB Thermochill PA120.3|Swiftech Storm Rev.2|Swiftech MCP 655 |

| I bumped the FSB to 225 and ran OCCT test and it was ok. All this talk of dividers and I see nothing in the bios about dividers. Ok here's a pic of bios ![]() Last edited by Capper; January 21st, 2007 at 09:32. Reason: consecutive posts merged |

| I really like using Simple's method if I have alot of time and I want to get the maximum overclock out of my processor. The divider option should be somewhere in the memory options page. Just keep increasing the fsb until you hit a wall. (cannot pass OCCT anymore. You should be running the half an hour test) ![]() I Like Watercooling. D-Tek Fuzion, MCP655, MCR220 |

| ok thanks I see nowhere to change dividers ie: cpu to 4 or 5 or to change HTT to 1x. I bumped the FSB to 235 and it wouldn't boot, it did at 230. I have no clue what I'm doing so I put the FSB back to 220. Last edited by gvblake22; December 10th, 2006 at 09:27. Reason: consecutive posts merged |

| Crap, theres alot to say. I need to find a guide for you. There are a number of things that are limiting you at this point. When it booted at 230, was it OCCT stable? ![]() I Like Watercooling. D-Tek Fuzion, MCP655, MCR220 |
