Default OC'd for over a year

I've been running a 38% overclock for well over a year now on this system, with few, if any problems. I've been vigilant on my cooling and always keep an eye on things. So, this has brought a question to mind lately:

If I cut back to all stock speeds at this point, and left it that way, what would happen to my system? Would it run as if I never OC'd it, or would it have problems? Just something I've been thinking about.

If it's not fixed, then don't broke it!

Unless nothing was cooled properly, nothing that should make a difference. Maybe a more wear here and there, but they're still good to last a while.

If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you?

I've been overclocking CPU's since...well...for some time now. I ran an AthlonXP1600 from its stock of 1.4ghz to 1.6Ghz, a decent enough overclock for that CPU. In 2003 I gave that system to my sister who is still using it, overclocked, today.

I hear ya Quakindude!!!

I used one of them "unlocking" kits to unlock the multiplier on a 2500 Barton core, used it oc'd for around a year, then built a system for a couple that are still using it, and it boots up as a 3200 with the oc that is on it.

Hell that chip is somewhere in the 3 to 3 1/2 year old range

The simple answer is: Yes, it will run as if you never overclocked it. If you are running it continually OCed then you will be able to run it continually at stock if need be...

Disclaimer: If you overheated something at some point then it is possible you could have damaged something, but most likely if you damaged something you wouldn't be able to continue to smoothly run it overclocked.

On a somewhat related note, you should regularly check your heatsink/fans for dust and other buildup so you don't end up hindering your cooling and thus take a chance overheating something...

Quakin had his overclocked so much it caused his house to shift and took out the neighborhood.

I would rather read a NewEgg review than a [H] review

Yeah, the cooling solution I used generated too much air flow.

Those Barton core chips were made by Timex I believe. They would take a lickin' and keep on tickin'.

Depending on how much of a OC(38% is significant) and added voltage, electron migration can occur.

My 920 will not run stock speeds stable anymore, rather it runs 3.46GHz perfectly ok.

At one point, I tried to increase from 2.76ghz to an even 2.8ghz with my voltage set on 1.456v (according to CPUZ, or 1.53vcore according to nView Monitor), and my system became unstable, especially when gaming. So, I took it back to 2.76 and everything was fine. I didn't want to push my luck.

And I just did a major cleanup of dust from the entire system a few weeks back, which was about the first really good cleaning it had since I put it together. I'm gonna have to be more diligent in the future, since my chipset was running pretty hot most of the time (lots of dust in it), and my Big T was pretty dirty too. But the chipset is doing much better now, and hopefully the AS5 I put under it is helping some.

My stock voltage is 1.3v if I remember correctly, with a stock speed of 2.2Ghz. I was never sure if 38% overclocked would be considered significant, considering that I've seen some people acheive nearly 100% OC's (with some pretty over-the-top cooling, mind you!). What is electron migration and what can it do?

Is 3.46Ghz your overclock on your 920?
