| 5 Minute Mod Man | Ok, while I have built a lot of computers, I have avoided OCing, for fear of doing something completely stupid like frying a CPU or MB... So now I am ready to take babysteps and need your help. I am still using the default bios options for this PC. I bought this OCZ PC4000 ram in hopes of being able to do some OCing. I have been using a standard HSF but I am waiting for the upgrade HSF Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro that One4Yu2C suggested for a cheapskate like me... For case fans, I have 2 intake and 2 out (obviously not including the PSU). Anyway, I don't know what might help you but here is the CPU-Z info to start with: WELL, this version of BIOS that I have only allows for a multiplier change upto 10. And I can not change the bus speed or anything else. I am hoping to upgrade my bios and maybe get more options that way, or else I am probably screwed... | I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal. | Quote:
To access your CPU fsb options, reference here (LINK), which has pics of your motherboard's BIOS focusing on the overclocking section. In short: - Go to the Advanced menu - Go to Jumperfree Configuration - Change the Overclock Profile to Manual - Go to the Frequency Configuration submenu - Inside you should see a setting for CPU Clock, which is your fsb Also keeping in mind that you'll need to adjust the HT Link Bus (as we discussed via Skype) if going for a modest overclock or higher, you'll need to navigate as follows: - Go to the Advanced menu - Select the Chipset menu - Adjust the LDT Bus Frequency, which is your HT mutliplier I believe your motherboard lists the LDT Bus Frequency in MHz rather than a multiplier, and if so, it breaks down as follows: 1000MHz = x5 (stock) 800MHz = x4 600MHz = x3 400MHz = x2 200MHz = x1 ___________________________________ If you still can't find the necessary options, I could always make a house call on one of your days off. ![]() | |

| I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal. | It's being misread. There's no way the proc is running a 3.0V, and I had him run CPU Burn In to check his load temps yesterday, which was sitting very comfortably in the mid-high 40s. |

| 5 Minute Mod Man | I am at work right now but if I remember correctly, there were 2 voltages listed in bios, one was around 3 and the other around 1.3. I don't remember what they were for or anything like that. But I am sure that is why it is being misread. CPUZ is likely pulling that other voltage reading (whatever it is) instead of the 1.3. And I looked through the current bios fairly well and there was nothing titled "overclock profile" in the jumperfree configuration. Maybe once I flash the new bios it will be there. Currently is v1002, the latest for this MB is v1010. I have to throw on a floppy drive this week to do that though. I have extras, it's just a matter of finding the time in the next couple days to do it all. Last edited by PrOLifIC_onE; January 20th, 2007 at 16:20. |

| I'm Diggin it! | That CPU should be a decent overclocker. Don't expect anything like the C2D's of course, but I wouldn't be surprised if you got another 400Mhz out of it. | 5 Minute Mod Man | Thanks to One4Yu2c!! I got this baby up 25% to 2500Mhz and stable. I actually ran the CPU Burn-in for about 30 minutes and I saw it get up to 46*C briefly but it stayed stable at 44*C 99% of the time. Room temp = 20*C (about 67*F). OH And I am still running the original HSF. I'll install the new Arctic Cooler HSF tomorrow and see how it compares. |

| I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal. | And he's chugging along on a 1:1 ratio, too. It was basically an effortless push to a 250fsb w/ no CPU voltage adjustment, and those temps on stock cooling are looking great. Congrats on your first OC, PrOLifiC! Hopefully the next time will go a lot less smooth, giving you a chance to get your hands dirty troubleshooting. |
