Default Issues w/ my Overclock

Hey guys, sorry for creating another "Help Me thread", but I'm having some issues. 've been diddling with this for some while now. Everything seemed stable yesterday at

FSB 420
CPU MULT. 8.0
CreV1.37

I ran 2 instances of Orthos w/ my affinity set right. I ran Prime95 for 6 hours on small, large and blend. Temps seemed awesome, but when I went to start her up this morning I got no post beep and a black screen. So I cleared my cmos and started over at 400 FB and 8.0 Mult.

RAM Divider is 1:1

Running @ 1066MHZ

Everything seems fine on my stress tests, but when I go to restart, it hangs again w/ a EN SETUP on my LCD poster. Any ideas or suggestions?

Did you alread flash to the latest bios? And have you changed any of the other voltages, like for the fsb?

Bios is 0219, latest as far as I'm aware of. I'm using the Rampage MOBO. I really haven't touched any of the voltages on anything.

Might want to slightly [Very tiny] increase the voltages on the Northbridge and the Ram.
The CPU voltage looks about maxed.

Okay guys. I think I've got it running stable. I'm sure there are some things I can do to better my overclock, but I'll have to baby step it from now on. I was running at 420x8, I tried my cpu core up to 1.4250 and it blue screened me. Thus far the setting below seem the most stable and rock solid. ((Sorry for the big picture))

I also tried it at 450x8 and it blue screened me. I guess about the best I can do now is work on lowering my memory timings?

Please make suggestions if you see something. I want to run this 24/7 w/ no hiccups.

You might as well want to lower your CPU ratio to 7x, use a higher FSB so your memory is more maxed out. You're already using a 1:1 FSB:DRAM ratio so keep it that way for that.
To keep the same overclock use 7x CPU ratio and 468FSB. Your memory will run at 936Mhz. At that point (936mhz) you might be able to tighten the timings a bit or even run in 1T command rate, the later which would give you a nice little boost on memory performance.

If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you?

it looks to me like your memory was causing the instability. in the first post you had it at 1066mhz unstable and now at 800mhz stable.

taking a look at our review of your memory kit it doesn't look like it overclocks very high anyways. what voltage do you have your memory set at?

Thanks guys for the input. I also checked w/ Asus and they don't seem to recognize Mushkin as one of their recommended memory brands. I didn't know that when I purchased everything. I'll hold onto what I have for a while at least and maybe think about new mem later, but by that time DDR3 might be cheaper and who knows I might just have to wait for the full Monte: MOBO, CPU and Ram.

Thanks for the advice. I'm learning big time here and I've delved further into computers than I ever imagined.

I bumped my Mult down to 7 and I'm running my FSB at 468 From the get go it looks like my voltage jumped up. I've been running my mem and cpu on auto voltage, because every time I touched my voltage manually, it seemed to become unstable.

My voltage seems to be running at 1.43 or 1.44 is that to high?

I also tried 1T to no effect :(. I got a blue screen again.

Alright, then forget about 1T. Not a lot of kits can do it successfully and I thought your frequency might have been too high to run it properly, but who knows sometimes you can be surprised. :P
As for voltage, no, it isn't too high, but you might want to try to find the sweetspot manually. This way you might end up with a slightly lower voltage (thus less heat) and that can obviously only be a good thing.

Running a FSB of 400+ is going to require some voltage increase to the FSB, MCH and most likely the CPU. Some boards, like a Gigabyte P35c flavor I have seen do 500FSB with no voltage increases, OCing is luck and skill, and one cannot expect for a certain part to OC. Granted MB manufacturers are nice enough to give us these options or else we'd all be out of a hobby.

With that Rampage X48, you have the cream of the crop and it should do well past 500FSB with minor adjustments...
