| anybody got any tips for overclocking on an MSI P6N platinum mobo. One big question I have is on memory timings, they are set to auto and do not show a current numerical value so I don't know if they need to be changed. Also there are 9 parameters to assign values to(tCL, tRCD, tRP, tRAS, tRRD, tRC, tWR, tWTR, and tREF) as well the command per clock cycle. All the timing numbers I see discussed have only 4 values( the first 4 listed above I believe) so what do I do with the other parameters? I don't wnt to go too hard core so should I just leave them alone for now? | I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal. | The ones you want to pay attention to are tCL, tRCD, tRP, and tRAS. The order can vary, but tRAS will be the highest one. For example, a typical tight timed kit of DDR2-800 will be listed as 4-4-4-12. What that translates to in the BIOS is 4(tCL) - 4(tRCD) - 4(tRP) - 12(tRAS). As you overclock your RAM frequency, you'll likely need to 'loosen' these if you find that leaving them on 'Auto' isn't working. And by 'loosen,' we mean raise their values. For example, most DDR2-1066 kits are rated at 5-5-5-15, and you'd be hard pressed to find a kit of RAM capable of running 4-4-4-12 stably at a 1066 frequency. And finally, set your command clock to 2T when overclocking. Setting it to 1T is a surefire way to run into a brick wall relatively quickly, and leaving it on 'Auto' might prompt the motherboard/BIOS to be a bit too aggressive. |

| thanks for the heads up. Now I guess I need to know why cpu-z tells me my Q6600 is running with a multiplier of 6 instead of the 9 my bios is stating. so my 2.4ghz quadcore before my overclocking has even started is running at a lame ass 1.6ghz WTF. | SpeedStep is probably enabled. In the BIOS, disable speedstep and it should be back up at 9x. | Gresham area, don't know the coordinates LOL so I see it is also called EIST in my bios, but it is and was disabled. I think I may be in over my head, but now I'm trippin' cause my processor is throttled down according to cpu-z and that sucks. Is MSI's overclocking part of their BIOS the only option I have, is cpu-z sometimes wrong New rig: Antec900 case Rosewill 500W PSU MSI P6N platinum 650i sli mobo ![]() Q6600 processor 6GB Corsair xms DDR2 800 RAM EVGA 8800GTS superclocked 320 MB GPU 160GB Maxtor hdd 250GB Maxtor hdd 750GB Seagate hdd Lite-on DVD burner windows vista home premium 64bit Samsung 20" widescreen LCD Last edited by gvblake22; January 29th, 2008 at 18:27. | I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal. | In the CPU Features menu, disable C1E. If you don't see that option, hit F4 to unhide it (it was hidden in earlier BIOS versions). |

| God bless you sir. my computer started up so fast it made me tear up, and that was just at its speced out speeds. Now I would love toknow if you know where to find the bus speed settings, it shows FSB but that is not the same thing right, it's currently 1067 New rig: Antec900 case Rosewill 500W PSU MSI P6N platinum 650i sli mobo ![]() Q6600 processor 6GB Corsair xms DDR2 800 RAM EVGA 8800GTS superclocked 320 MB GPU 160GB Maxtor hdd 250GB Maxtor hdd 750GB Seagate hdd Lite-on DVD burner windows vista home premium 64bit Samsung 20" widescreen LCD |
