Default How fast will a E6750 go?

My CPU idles at 1.14V and 3 degrees Celsius above room temp. At load about 14 degrees higher (37 C) and 1.35V. Is it possible to get a 5.9 mark in Vista with it or should I replace it with something faster. I have also trouble with hard drives seems like Vista is resetting them approx every 15secs. Anyone with the same problems?

The best O/C with any given processor is luck of the draw, nothing more. There are several factors which will play into the O/C.....the stepping (revision), where the chip came from on the processor, and even the supporting hardware all play into the equation.

Check out our O/C guide, which is still really a rough draft, but its good enopugh as is to give you an idea of how to OC.

First thing I notice is your PSU, with that hardware and all that stuff hooked up to it I'm surprised the poor thing still functions at all.

Thanks! I read the o/c guide today. You've probably noticed that I'm already overclocking from 2.66 to 3.2 so I'll try to crank it up even more and see when stability will be a problem. I will also try the multiplier resetting. I have one tip regarding PSU's and power consumption use a mains power consumption meter they are cheap and will show what margin You have. I have at least a 100W margin with my setup.
Having a hefty supply is not always good if it's inefficient.

The thing is there's not only the amount of watts you can pull out of your power supply that is important, but the quality of the components used. If you can get a less hectic signal from your power supply (cleaner power) not only will you likely be able to overclock higher before instability, but you can even gain some FPS in your games!
Besides, power supplies all have efficiency, and using a "bigger power supply" and loading it less is always better than using a smaller power supply and loading it more. It will be more efficient, therefore use less power from the wall outlet, create less heat and once again, likely deliver cleaner power.

I didn't touch on the amps area either. While some power supplies are rated at 400W, most of the power is delivered on the 3.3v and 5v lines. Those are "cheap" power supplies because while you do need a hefty amount of amps on those lines, you need a much bigger amount on the 12v line(s) when you're talking about an enthusiast PC. Video cards and processors feed on those 12v, and have little to no need for the 3.3v and 5v rails.

I personally am not going to say you need more power for you rig. You really don't. But what you DO need is a good, quality PSU, and the one you have isn't anywhere near that. Quite the opposite actually.

Quote:
The NorthQ PSU doesn't quite live up to expectations, however. We had tried to draw 11 amps from the +5V rail on the PSU, but this would cause the PSU to shut itself off, possibly overcurrent protection or some other failsafe. Dropping this down to 7, but tweaking both +12V rails to 12 and 13 amps, respectively, gave us the same problem. We were finally able to get the PSU to stay functioning at the currents shown in the above table. However, after a whole 10 seconds the PSU's input power started to rise dramatically... a sign of increased resistance from rising temperatures and impending doom. Then, something blew in side the PSU and the NorthQ 400W was laid to rest.
If I were you, I'd replace that PSU as soon as possible. This one would be an excellent choice.

And Polobunny, anything hooked up to the PCI/AGP/PCIe slots draws its power through the slot from the +5V and 3.3V rails.

Seems like there is a very small margin, never trust what's written on the outside.... I tend to buy too cheap supplies, the four computers I have eat them alive. I have to replace 2-3 supplies each year. Where I live I get my mains supply by wires in the air. If i forget to pull the plugs before a tree felling storm there is a very high probability of PSU failure within a week after the blackout. I've lost 2 Colors-it 520W ATX 2 supplies since october 07 maybe they were crap too. I always have at least one psu spare at home.
Well it seems my road to overclockers paradise will start with a new PSU and a mains spike filter. (and two spares)
Using 5V and 3.3V to power cpu's wasn't that back in the P3 age.

Seems my spare supply was more up to the task a XION AXP 400P12P but I couldn't find its actual performance on the net. For my overclocking needs this ATX 12V 2.2 compliant supply can output almost 29 A on the 12V rails according to the specs. Still it's total output is only 400W. But there is no difference I'll try a few hundred more Megahertz to see what happens.

Next Question! The memory: Do I get any improvement at all (even slight) if I run the dual channel at slightly more than half the fsb I've always used matched pairs at half the fsb ex: 2 x 400 = 800 . Am I wrong there? Is there any good mem performance test program that runs in Vista 64 without twiddling.

I have to agree that you may want to look at a bit better PSU......400W is kinda pushing it with that rig, especially with it OCed
