| hey all, been a bit a of a long time since the last time i posted here, but anyway, onto the question at hand so, i felt a little daring today and decided to see if my mobo could take a 1ghz OC. i upped the fsb to 425mhz, and took the multi down to 8. slackened the ram timings a little, and it boots sweet no problems. i didn't touch the voltages of anything, and let the motherboard decide the best voltage for my cpu. fair enough, but it put the vcore up to 1.55v, which made the cpu run at 68 degrees. on idle. obviously this was too much so i put it back to 3.0ghz (333mhz x 9). so, what i was wondering was, what vcore should i set to make it A) stable, and B) cool (ish). my computer is in my sig, and i have a zalman cnps 9500 on my cpu. thanks in advance g-relk |

| We take both criticism and positive comments very positively | theres no set way of determining the correct voltage....its really trial and error. Start wit the VCore set to something reasonable....maybe 1.4V, and run Orthos to test for stability....you should also bump the MCH Voltage or NB voltage, depending on whats in your BIOS......a mistake some people make is boosting the VCore alone. Bump the voltage one step at a time and test your system until its stable, thats honestly about all you can do. INTEL E8400 // Gigabyte EP45 Extreme // 4GB DDR3-1600 // Palit HD 4870 // Antec 1200 // Seagate 750GB HDD // Zalman CNPS9700 // BFG ES 800W PSU |

| HL's Technomancer | That would be Auto, there is no set it and forget it if you want stability at the lowest volts as possible. If you want to fine tune your system like that, you'll have to go through the motions of testing for stability, dropping the volts a tiny bit, then more testing as Capper said. Every system and set-up is different, even if we both shared the same exact computer specs our results would be comparable but different. Last edited by Stormcrow; March 5th, 2008 at 23:39. |
