From what I've been told:
ATITool - Overclocking utility for ATI cards
is what you use to overclock an ATI card.
Make sure you don't bork it. make a hotkey for your default setting in case you bork it and your screen becomes a big mess of blob and blur

yes you can but you won't get much out of it. its the low-end card of 2 generations back. it was less then enough when it was new

Overclocking is changing you clocks speeds higher than the manufacturer's rating. Example, if you change the speed of your CPU from 2.6GHz to 3.4GHz, you have overclocked it.

You can overclock pretty much any card. Download ATi Tray tools.

ATI Tray Tools

You can use this to overclock your card. Install it and then right click > Hardware > Overclock Settings...

Click the image to open in full size.

Click the image to open in full size.

You can now adjust the sliders, apply, scan for artifacts, etc. etc. Don't change the voltages since it is your first time overclocking, and DO NOT CHANGE THE MEMORY timings, that is a recipe for disaster. I would move the slider on the core 10 MHz until it overheats/artifacts. Artificating is where disorted lines and shapes appear btw. after that back down about 5MHz to be safe. write the number down and then go back to default. Now overclock the memory until the card overheats or "snows," which is where a bunch of white dots appear on the screen. Again, back down 5MHz to be safe. After that set the clocks to where you want them and your set! If you being artifacting, go back and set the clocks down another 5MHz.

The one thing you'll have to fight with is heat, make sure it doesn't get too hot. Really from overclocking, there isn't much to gain exceot 2-3 FPS.

can't really go wrong with overclocking a videocard. It's automatic. You download rivatuner and detect optimal settings, and there you go.

I use ATI Tool. Let it run for a couple hours finding max core. write down max core and return back to stock. Run for a few more hours finding max memory. Set both to their maximum and turn both back about 10-20 mhz and you've got a good overclock! If you want to play it safe, you can turn it down a bit more.

i open ati tool and it said this message.
A radeon 9000/9550/9600 has been detected in your system.

These cards are locked against overclocking when using orgingal catalsty drivers version 3.4 to 5.3

If your card's clock speeds revert to default after running a 3D application you can try to remove the OC lock by going to settings misc and checking the option remove clock lock.
