| Hay guys, I hope I am not crossing any bridges here in starting a new post. I figured I get a fresh start and maybe save someone some time in sifting through the other thread pertaining to Overclocking my system. Right now I am sitting at 3.6ghz. Here are the system settings that got me here... CPU CORE VOLTS -----> 1.55 [1.51v after vdroop] CPU FSB--------------> 1.4v MEMORY--------------> 2.15v NForce SPP-----------> 1.4v NForce MCP-----------> 1.5v [AUTO] HT SPP<->MCP--------> 1.4v FSB----------> 1600MHZ [3.6ghz] MEM --------> 800mhz MEMORY-------> UNLINKED MEMORY TIMINGS -----> 5-5-5-17-2t ------>3-22-5-9-7.8us coretemps---->38 idle/57 under load (highest I know of right now) Heres what I can do.... I can run 3dmark06 as much as I want, and not have any problems during the running of this program. The Benchmark placed me with a score of 15968. I cna check my email, browse the fourms, play music and everything is generally fine. HOWEVER, Call of Duty2 has locked up on me 2wice when playing. Its random, the time frame changes each time it happens... seomtimes it doesn't lock up and it seems fine. ALso I ran Orthos lastnight and after 20 minutes I went to bed. When I turned the monitor back on this morning it looked to me the system had rebooted itself, therefore I don't know how long it ran for. I am going to do it again today while Im here watching the kids. it seems though, I am soooo close to getting the system stable at this clock speed. Can anyone suggest anything for more stablilty (beside the obvious of toneing down the OC). Memory volts, more CPU volts, better memory timings (which I know nothing about)... any help would be appreciated.. thanks, as always.... | I'm Diggin it! | From your post I can't tell what timings you have your memory set to. If it is stock timings at 800Mhz, it isn't a memory issue. The E6600 has a maximum voltage spec of 1.3525V. You are well over that and frankly, I'm surprised you've not fried your chip yet even though you may be keeping the temps below the 60.1C thermal spec. Make no mistake about it, your E6600 will not last long with those voltages, so I hope you can afford to replace it sooner rather than later. Especially with air cooling. That being said, I think you've reached the maximum (at around 3.5GHZ IMHO) you'll get out of that CPU without water-cooling and more voltage, if the CPU will even handle higher voltage, which I doubt it will. You'd need to get into the phase-change arena to use the voltage needed to remain Orthos stable at that FSB. I've seen folks get the E6600 to 3.6-3.8GHZ stable with CPU temps in the low 40's under load. But they don't usually last longer than 6-8 months that way. | I'm pretty sure you've reached your OCing limit, on air anyway. On more exotic cooling methods (phase-change, water, etc.) you could OCing more... | I'm Evil | From there, I'd be willing to bet you can drop that CPU speed to the 3.375-3.4GHz range, drop the voltage, tighten up the memory, and not notice the slightest difference........and in the end enjoy a great OC on a system that will last a little longer. | Hi guys..... even before I recieced a reply (and thankyou), I had already bumped the system back down to 3.4ghz. everything is completely stable at this clocking (1512 FSB) and the volts are only around 4.1 before VDroop. Just to make sure everything was okay, i played a few rounds and everything seemed ok. As for memory timmings... I need to brush up becasue I havn't a clue as to what I need to change or adjust. Also.... i thought the e6600 had a max voltage of 1.7 volts.... trying to rmember where I read this... guess I should look at the funny papers that came with it. | okay to show Im doing reading and actually trying to learn, I found that and please correct me if Im wrong... if I change my memory settings from 5-5-5-17-2t to something like 5-5-5-12-2t, the memory will run faster?? | socket 939 junkie | in synthetic benchmarks. the best thing to do is lower one memory latency at a time by 1 and then stress test it using memtest86+ if it completes a couple of passes, then lower the same setting by 1 and repeat till you find instability. when you find the lowest stable latency for that particular timing, move on to the next one and repeat the process till you find the lowest timings for your ram Q6600 @ 3.6ghz (400x9 @ 1.408v) Gigabyte X38-DQ6 2x2GB G-Skill DDR2 1000 @ DDR2 1066 5-5-5-15 2T 2.1v Visiontek HD4870 Seagate 7200.11 500GB 32MB Cache HDD Razer Barracuda AC1 Silverstone DA750 Samsung Dual Layer DVD Burner Lian Li G70WB Thermochill PA120.3|Swiftech Storm Rev.2|Swiftech MCP 655 |

Processor Finder E6600 (Or whatever the CPU designation is.) When Google pops up with the results, look for the "http://processorfinder.intel.com/" return addy at the bottom part of the descriptions. Never, ever go off of what 99% of the people out there tell you is the max voltage or temps for a CPU. They may have had their CPU to 1.7V and 72*C, but I bet they didn't keep it there long. Or they bought a new CPU. ![]() Look it up yourself. That way, you always know for sure. Hell, I still look up the temps/voltages for the E6600 before I post info just to be sure Intel hasn't changed them.
