download "coolbits" and run it to find the optimal O/C for your card

run it? I heard that running the autodetect can detect speeds that are not stable for your card.

Increase the clock first by 5 mhz until you start seeing artifacts (play a game for an hour or run 3dmark). This will help you find the limit of your core. do the same for the mem speed. When you have found the limit for both clock and mem, put both to the highest stable and run 3dmark.

If you have artifacts, slowly lower both clock and mem until you have no more artifacts.

I hope you understand my explanation.

I've used Coolbits for quite awhile over several cards and never had a single issue with it. It might noot give you the absolute top O/C, but it is a time saving alternative to playing with a card all night for minimal gain

The AutoOverclock feature on CoolBits is nice because (like Capper said) it saves a lot of time and does a decent job (although it might not be the 100% highest possible overclock, it is a great starting point at least). But like all overclocks, test, test, test and make sure it stable; really doesn't matter how you arrived at the clock.

I think ATI Tool or ATI Tray Tool is/are the most popular methods.
I used ATI Tool back in the day with my 9600Pro and it seemed to work well. I'm sure the application has advanced much since then though

I've used the ATI tool and riva tuner I think it was. I'm not real happy with either one.
