Default Windows SMP client

It is public and available....

remember, it is still in beta testing so there may be some bugs to be worked out... but considering I am getting 1000-1300 ppd on this client (versus 200-700ppd with regular units) with my E6600, it should be easy to kick things in high gear for the team. Any dual or quad core will work.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Thanks for the heads up.
Time to trash the virtual machines.

Edit: I suggest people wait for a less buggy version. Doesn't work in service mode apparently. I lost tonight waiting on it :(

read the FAQs before jumping head in like you may have done with previous versions.. theres certain things that don't work yet like the "run as a service"...

Hyperthreading is not implicitly supported or not. Some people have posted some very odd stats concerning the use of true dual-core CPU's that also have hyperthreading enabled, and disabled with very odd results.

I'd check out some of the threads over at the Stanford forums on this for up-to-date info. And as screwball mentions, read the FAQ AND the readme.txt file included with the client because it's real easy to screw up the installation if you don't.

if you have a single core with HT you should be ok but this is best left for the true dual and quad cores without HT.

At any rate I'm not suggesting it yet, virtual machine is the way to go if you wanna run SMP folding in my opinion. This is a burden, and it gets me mad because once I started the client it just said it was deleting my unit so far since the other service (mpiexec.exe) didn't start properly... :\

with this WinSMP client, it is best to not restart your computer or the client itself until after the unit has finished and sent the results in. I usually wait until mine finishes and then restart the computer for any updates and such, usually then every 3rd restart it will pick up where it left off.. otherwise it restarts itself.
This is still a beta client so if you can't really follow this then you are better off with linux SMP in a VMWare or WinVPC.
