Most likely, it's a "false positive", where the data file just happens to have the binary equivalent of something that your virus software has matched with this virus.

It's possible, but unlikely, that you actually are infected, and the virus has recognized this file as an active one being written to frequently, and is programmed to infect it. (although I've never seen or heard of this).

Since Stanford's servers will only communicate with FAH and nothing else, and the FAH client will only communicate with Stanford's server's, it's *VERY* unlikely you received the virus from Stanford.

What is your virus program?

Have you had the system scanned from one of the other virus programs, on-line? Did it also find your system to be infected on that file?

I use Avast Antivirus. I didn't delete the file, just contained it for now. No, I have not scanned it with a diff antivirus. I might sent it to Avast for them to inspect.

Wow. This is kinda bizarre. This is the first I have ever heard of this happening. If you think about it though, how easy would it be to release a WU file for people to download that was infected with a virus... you'd have a serious epidemic on your hands.

You know, I haven't ran an anti-virus software for more than 3 years now, and the thing is, I haven't had a single virus yet!!!!

I think as long as you know the web site that your going to, and don't open any odd ball emails, you really don't need anti virus software!!!

A very good pal of mine has been on the internet for around 10 or 12 years now, and has never got a virus and still states "there is no reason for antivirus software"!!!!

Avast has also had a problem with a false positive on FAH exe files.

Can you say "AVG"? It's free version is terrific. I've used that for 2 years, and like it much better than Norton (which was not free).

Unlike some others, I have been infected with virii on the net, and not by opening email's, either.

Anti-virus software is necessary, imo (and experience). There are some good and free versions to choose from, fortunately.

Really? And how do you know if you don't have a virus if you don't have an Antivirus? About half the viruses out there infect your system and keep a very low profile so you will never know they are there phoning home. Not very smart bud. I have read up and read up on internet security. If you wish to continue to believe that you don't need an antivirus then that will be your downfall. Running just a firewall is not enough.

The virus was found on my internet server which just sits there. No browsing the web and no game playing on it. I run a good firewall, spyware and antivirus on it 24/7 an still got infected with trojans besides the virus that was found in the F@H file. Yes that may be a false positive but I do not believe the others are.

Again, how do you know if you don't run a firewall? Trusted web sites you say? Trusted web sites get infected also bud, which is then passed to you. Viruses now hide inside of pics that are on a website that your pc must download and display them in Explorer or Firefox thus infecting your pc. I just can't imagine that there are people that truly think that they don't need an Antivirus.
