| Alright people, you all know who it is, and it's time for him to join you guys in the F@H project. Unfortunately, I don't know the first thing about it. I'm pretty sure it's simple to set up, but I need some help to get started (yes Joker, I said I need some help...). I've read the post that's supposed to describe how to get it up and running, but I'm not sure I understand it quite clearly ![]() So any help would be appreciated, and I'm ready to get folding asap! My computer runs pretty much 24/7, even though I know it doesn't matter because any contribution is good. Thanks guys ![]() EDIT: Ok I have the two folders. FAH0, and FAH1, for the two cores of my CPU. I've added -local to the target lines of both shortcuts (one in each folder), and have a copy of the EXE in both folders (which is what, obviously, the shortcuts are from too). Now what? Do I run the shortcuts from both folders? They'll just try to install to the same location and I'm not sure how it would work... Also there is something about setting a certain ID so the program for each folder is associated with a specific core of your CPU so you can have two instances of the program running at onces with each using its own independent core to utilize your CPU to the fullest for F@H (of course). Help!! Last edited by [Dr. V]; August 22nd, 2007 at 09:31. | ||||||||||||||

| when installing, set to run was a service? yes MachineID 1 and then when you run the executable from the fah1 folder and run that setup, the ONLY difference is the one line: machineID 2 once the setup is done, restart the computer and you're all set if you need more, check this out: ![]() ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! | If you have a multi-core system, seriously look into using the f@h SMP client. Better points, better science and faster. | SMP client...how would I go about doing this? Anything to help the F@H team and the actual folding process for the diseases is what I'm looking for so if this is the way to go, hit me with it. | ||||||||||||||

| I'm assuming your folding box is running Windows XP? Download the Windows XP SMP client here: Windows 2000/XP/Vista SMP client console version Sixth one down, version 5.91. | It's actually Vista, and it's the main rig in my sig, but as I can see there it supports Vista. Let me see what I can get going, and I'll post back an EDIT here. Thanks! EDIT: I keep getting a + Error starting Folding@Home core. message when I run "fah.exe"... Sorry guys, I'm just pretty damn confused at this! | After you've expanded the client in a folder, you'll see a file called 'install.bat'. You'll need to run this file first. A DOS window will open, you need to enter your Vista account name on this line, then the Vista account password on the next, hitting enter after each. Read this for additional instructions: Folding@Home SMP Client FAQ also instructions included in the group of files with the install.bat file. Read them carefully and follow the instructions. Miss a step and it won't work. I'm running all XP and Ubuntu linux so can't help you too much with the Vista folding.
