Default How many steps can your CPU crunch in 24 hrs?

My 1 ghz pent 3 can do about 750,000 steps a day. My Athlon 64 4000+ at 2.4 ghz can do about 2,500,000 per day and thats with me surfin the net.

It took my 1 ghz 5 days to crunch out 4,000,000 steps. I loaded F@H on my main rig this morning 3:00 am and now at 9:00 pm it has crunched out 1,680,000 steps.

Those numbers will change with each different work unit, and a little bit with different run/clone/gens of a series.

What work units did your computers fold with those outcomes?

And a better way to determine 'how much' when talking folding@home
is to look at the ppd for each project number.

Here is my best folding computer with project 2604:

Min. Time / Frame : 12mn 53s - 1967.19 ppd
Avg. Time / Frame : 13mn 01s - 1947.04 ppd

<edit> I should note that the above system is not the one in my signature.

I don't remember what project # my 1 ghz was working on since it has since moved on to another one of 5 mill steps. My main rig is working on project 3403 run 3 clone 569 gen 4.

How much would a 400MHz Pentium 3 be able to do?

I really wanna get into folding for you guys, and that would be the only system (right now) that I have which can be 100% dedicated to it. No point in my main rig doing it, since it's impossible for me to have it on 24/7, unlike the P3 I have. I know it would be "worth it" no matter how much it is, but when I ask "is it worth it?" you know how I'm saying it...so is it?

Honestly, barely. Your main system would probably do more even if not on 24/7 then the P3, then again it depends how often it's on too...

If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you?

It's on anywhere from 14-18 hours per day. Until I get my ultra-quite lan-buddy (in the TT Lanbox) up and running, I just can't sleep with the damn sound of my case. I'm most definitely considering waiting 'til i get that build done, and then just run the F@H 24/7 off of it (which I would've done anyway, just don't know when that will be coming together).

each project is different... you can have a unit that finishes in 4 days that is more steps per day then one I have that take 2 days to finish....

Thanks HL and Corsair!

You know what I didn't expect? SMP performance to IMPROVE in Vista.

SMP in general seems faster for all the projects in Vista, but the only one I've compared is the 2610 project. On average, it took about 19m 45s to advance to the next step in XP, but in Vista it only takes about 15m 50s.

Anyways, 24/.25= about 96 steps per day.
