I just bought this board, so really, this is the first time any of the hardware has been plugged into it. so could it be that my ram is just not working with this board?

I would take out all but one stick of memory and see if it continues, if it does, swap out that stick of memory with another one... if it continues then look at addin cards such as video and PCI cards, try taking out the PCI card. Also try unplugging any external drives or USB devices to see if that helps

Thanks HL and Corsair!
