| Went to boot up this morning and after g through the BIOs screen the system reboot. When booting up again i get the option to go into safe mode, last known good config, etc. Regardless of which selection i choose it goes to the Windows splash second for a minute then reboots the system. I have a bootable XP disc, is there anyway i can repair the install from there? I went into the repair console and ran the chkdsk but that didnt seem to fix any thing. Any ideas guys, thanks for any help ![]() "Show them no mercy for they shall show you none" Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz Ati x1900GT Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 3 gigs Crucial Ballistix PC 6400 ddr2 2 HDD 400 total gigs Klipsch 7.1 Pro Media speakers 22" HP w2207h |

| You'll want to do a "chkdsk -r", which will repair bad sectors and what not. You can also try full repair by choosing "set up windows xp" and do the repair there. If your system is OC'd, put it back to stock, check all the heatsinks and fans. Also might consider running memtest, though I would imagine your HD is the culprit here. | Colonel Calamity | open up the case and do you hear any odd grinding or clicking noises? Also look for any dust that may be clogging stuff up, alot of times when this happens the CPU is heating up immediately due to too much dust in the fan or the heatsink came loose. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! | You may want to try booting up with one stick of ram. If that doesn't work ... switch them. If it does work ... then it would be an issue with your ram ... one of them anyway ... or timings or voltages or latencies. Before messing with your hard drive ... do this. Also undust everything before messing with your hard drive. Though it may be the culprit ... do things the easy way in troubleshooting ... up to harder troubleshooting ... Harder trouble shooting ... is more work and can mess something up ... or end up being a fresh re-install. | Tried most of these options and its still doing the same thing. I ran the chkdsk -r and it stills still not loading. How can i just install windows over the top so i dont lose any of my info? It repairs windows when it does that doesnt it? ![]() "Show them no mercy for they shall show you none" Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz Ati x1900GT Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 3 gigs Crucial Ballistix PC 6400 ddr2 2 HDD 400 total gigs Klipsch 7.1 Pro Media speakers 22" HP w2207h Last edited by FlameofTheWest; February 26th, 2008 at 08:09. |

| Colonel Calamity | go into your BIOS and look at the CPU temperatures.... does it continue to climb even when just looking at the BIOS temps? If so them your heatsink is not tightened down and needs to be reseated. If it climbs to a point like 50-60ºC in the BIOs then your heatsink fan is likely clogged or there is no airflow to take the hot air out of the system, many times an exhaust fan is to blame for that. If the temps stay low like in the 30s or low 40s then it is definitely windows or the hard drive. Another option is look on the website of your hard drive manufacturer as they always have utilities that can check over the drive by booting from a CD or USB thumb drive. If everything checks out there then windows is hosed and may need to try the non-destructive reinstall process. If that fails, take the hard drive out, backup your stuff and then complately format and reinstall windows from scratch. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair!
