Default Weirdness with OC'Ing

Ok, heres a weird issue with OCing im having, if i drop the CPU multiplier to say 5x, then boot windows and start up clockgen, I can take the HTT all the way to 350Mhz, but if I restart and say put the multi at 9x(stock) for 1.8Ghz, start up Windows and set say 223Mhz FSB for 2Ghz and I hit set, it hard locks, but if I go into the BIOS and set 223Mhz, it boots up fine and functions properly? Any ideas?

I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

Stop using ClockGen? I'm not an advocate of OC'ing from within Windows - as you're seeing, it can be quirky compared to getting your hands dirty in the BIOS.

I second that.
Just stick to the BIOS so you know exactly what is happening.

My BIOS is decent, but extremely limited with memory timing options

Are you talking about the KA1 MVP BIOS? If so, it has all of the typical, basic memory timings available for your tweaking pleasure and it should be enough to get a decent overclock out of most any memory you throw at it...

Most of the Socket A motherboards are not extremely comprehensive with the memory timings. Usually only let you change 4-5 of them.

Yeah, it has most of the settings, just wanted a bit more
