Default Vista wont load.

I tried to install a theme from deviant art for windows vista.

Now when i try to load vista i get a black screen with a mouse pointer on it. (crt+alt+del does nothing.)

I tried safe mode but it does the same thing.

I tried booting from the CD, and i get the default vista wallpaper as a background, but nothing to click on, just a mouse pointer.

I have XP on a different partition, which is how i am posting now. So if i have to manually alter the files on my vista partition i can do that.

EDIT: I found a folder with the name of the theme i installed. In there was a folder called backup, with .dll's. I overwrite the .dll's in the system32 folder, and now it seems to be working fine. So i guess im ok, but i donno. Seems like a incomplete fix for some reason.

Running the repair option from the vista cd can do wonders. Also, a chkdsk /r can help. sfc /scannow might, too.

never install those themes unless it is from a trusted site, deviantart is NOT one of them. they can be laced with (at best) altered windows files that can cause the problem you just had... and (at worst) a nasty virus that hoses windows completely

Thanks HL and Corsair!
