Default Vista problem

this is a shot in the dark here as i assume most of the people here are waiting for a service pack before they think of getting vista. but i tried google searching and didn't come up with anything.

anyways.. i will outline my problem and see if anyone has had the same problem or knows anything about it or what not.. cuz it's really annoying.

generally what happens.. is when i am browsing through folders.. for example my documents or my music or whatever.. or especially even when i am browsing folders on my external drive.. explorer crashes. restarts.. and i have to start going thru all the folders again. sometimes if i am fast (and lucky) i can get to what i want and open it before it crashes.

anyone experience this or have any ideas what it could be?

Yea you definitely have to put your specs in your sig.

I'm helping out RAID with that, let me know if you want me to make you a custom signature.

Yes, the problem is Vista.... my solution is to go back to XP and/or Linux
Why does Vista do what it does? Who knows.

The only thing I can think of that may help is CCleaner and use its "Issues" cleaner which helps straighten the registry of corrupt or problematic entries.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

I think it's probably a hardware issue, but do what screwballl said and see if it works.

I had the same trouble with a file that had over 2000 songs and movies (no Joker not pron). It honestly seem'd like the folder had to reload like 5 times (maybe more) before the the crashing would stop. Don't know if it was just a new file association thing or not but it has stoped for me. Now the folder is all organized and no more issues.

What helped was that I wouldn't click the window to stop explorer. I was still able to move some folders, not completely but it worked for me.

I do use Vista Busines with e6600, evga 680i, balistix, OCZ 8800 gtx, and PCPC silencer 750.

I have a similar issue when taking 200-400 pictures off my camera at a time, I have to wait until explorer has every last thing loaded before I do something. Then its fine, but if I try to work while its loading, it crashes.

i've tried waiting for all the thumbnails to load before going into another sub-folder but it doesnt help. sometimes while it's just sitting there and all the thumbnails appear to be loaded it still crashes..

maybe its doing something else besides thumbnails.
