Default unstable computer, newish build.

My computer crash's on a regular basis. (every 2 hours or so.)

If i leave windows idle it does not crash.

I have replaced the HD, and the MoBo, i was thinking ram would be the next best bet to check.

So i went to DL a memtest.iso. When i went to burn the dvd i got a error, so i tried again, same error. So i tried several other files and none of them would copy into the folder.

So, could my problems be from my DVD player? I installed windows using it, and all of the programs that are crashing are also all installed from a disk. (including my system drivers!)

How can i tell if its only the burning option thats failing and not the whole drive?

Any thoughts would greatly be appriciated.

I'm just drawing straws here, but, did you update ALL drivers etc...after the build? Makes a HUGE difference in the way everything works.

yeah, I made a post a few weeks ago and tried everything everyone suggested there. Nothing has fixed the issues.

What burning software are you using?

Try giving Memtest86+ a whirl, and if you have a USB key, you can run it from there.

when does ram unload?

Twice now, i have gotten a blue screen crash/reboot. When i went back to the thing i was trying to do before the crash i got it again. (i tested this 3 times each time, and sure enough it crashed at the same spot everytime.)

When i powered down my computer completly. (flipped the switch on the psu to.) I could go back to the same spot i was crashing at and be fine.

ps; Memtest86 was ran with 0 errors.

memtest86+ would get best results running it for a long period of time. I usually run it for 24 hours, 1-2 passes may get no errors, but running it like 50 passes makes it a sure thing

Also if you're getting a BSOD, try seeing what the error code and the device thats causing the BSOD is.

(thanks blake!)

Hmm, have you checked for heat issues?
Run CoreTemp (Core Temp) to monitor your processor temperatures.
Run ORTHOS (Download Stress Prime 2004 BETA) for a good 10 to 15 minutes to tax your CPU to the maximum and get the highest temperature your current build would reach. If you see the temperature going over or close to 70C you might have a temperature related problem.

i have not seen a temp above 37c yet. So i dont think its heat. But i will run orthos and see.

When i ran memtest i only let it go through one pass. Do i just let it keep running to do a really good scan? or is there some kind of options somewhere in it?

edit: the BSOD comes and goes so fast i cant read it. It only pops up for about 1 second. Is there a log of it somewhere? or a option in windows somewhere to keep the BSOD up longer?
