Default TV won't change channels....

Here is the TV I have currently. Live Search: Toshiba 32A33 - 32" CRT TV

New in late December 2004. The wife turned it off by pushing the onboard buttons till she found the "off" button. Now,the remote won't operate it,change channels, nothing. When you push the onboard buttons such as change the channel, the TV comes on.It even turns off with the wrong buttons.
The remote won't operate it at all even after it is on.I have replaced remote batteries, and gone as far as unplugging it for 2 days.I know it isn't safe to open up and try to fix it,but I aint affeard.Could it be the tuner gone bad? Or possibly the "eye" for the remote? Is it something I can fix with some help....or worse yet, junk it and buy another TV?
It has a great picture and it is nice and big...and it's stuck on MTV.I hate watching all the hot bodies on spring break..it's disgusting.

Have you tried to press the "TV" button on the remote? I know a bunch of TV's I've had would freak/not operate with the remote if you pressed the VCR/audio/DVD etc etc button (makes sense after all :P)

hahaha, is this a woman thing? my wife did something similar a month ago and called me into the room to fix the tv. i asked her what she did and she said she tried to change the channel. of course she pressed every possible button instead of just reading the labels on them.

The remote wont do anything for it.She did this once before on a drunk moment and it screwed it up the same way.The next day,it was fine....if the channel change button turns the TV off...im thinking it's the tuner.

This could be one of 2 things in my opinion. Either the remote is done (buttons, IR sensor, something), or the IR sensor on the TV is done.

I'd try a new remote - just grab a cheap universal one that works with your TV, program it, and give it a go. If you get nothing, it most likely has something to with the TV.

Good luck OM-G.

P.S. your sig and avatar are looking very spiffy. Could you tell me where you got them? :aetsch:

If it was the IR sensor on the TV, then what about the volume and channel up/down buttons, turning the TV off and on? I did exploritory surgery on the remote, had difficulty inserting the needle to put it to sleep, but finally it went down. After removing the upper torso,an indepth visual inspection was performed and found no tumors or profound irregularities.
Is there a way to see IR.....like under a special light etc.

Yeah the sig looks good......some guy made it for me,you probably know him.
