| Hi there, Recently I've been having temperature issues (I think) with my northbridge and possibly the pwm ic. Here is a screenshot taken minutes after a long period of heavy load: ![]() It may be that the sensors are wrong, but how can I tell for sure? The graphics card and northbridge heatsink are pretty hot to the touch right after I shut off the system. This is also causing the nb fan to almost always run at full speed, because the bios is set up to do so if the nb temp exceeds 55 C. No overclocks or anything, and specs are in sig. Thanks :) DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ @ 2.21 GHz OCZ 2046 MB Dual-Channel RAM Nvidia GeForce 7800 GTX, 256 MB Creative SB Audigy 2, 24-bit Western Digital SATA 120 GB x 2, RAID 0 Seagate PATA 160GB Windows XP Professional, SP2 |

| socket 939 junkie | my pwm ic usually runs about 40-45c in my system. might be bad airflow in your case so i would try to rearrange the cables, or add fans. might want to point a fan at the metal heatsink on the motherboard. (near the cpu socket at the top. thing gets HOT) yeah i hated that fan on the northbridge. it was uber annoyingly loud so i changed it with the Evercool VC-RE. perfect fit on the motherboard, doesnt interfere with the graphics card, cools much more efficiently and is much much more quieter than the stock solution. hope that helps a bit ![]() |

| Not bad, but are you sure the Evercool has enough clearance from the graphics card? The stock one on the motherboard now comes close as it is. Thanks for the response by the way :) DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ @ 2.21 GHz OCZ 2046 MB Dual-Channel RAM Nvidia GeForce 7800 GTX, 256 MB Creative SB Audigy 2, 24-bit Western Digital SATA 120 GB x 2, RAID 0 Seagate PATA 160GB Windows XP Professional, SP2 |

As for chipset cooling on that DFI NF4 board, you could always try the Thermalright HR-05 SLI. | |

| I'm Diggin it! | IIRC, your NF4 chipset is OK up to 70C. Since I'm on dial up, I'm not going to research it right now, but I'm pretty sure I'm right. You need to pull the side off your case and check for dust buildup in your heatsinks and fans. That chipset should run around 50C loaded. I'd do as Simple said and replace the stock chipset cooler with an aftermarket solution. The DFI NF4's were notorious for being hot with the stock cooling solution. If airflow is in question, you can make a final determination by placing a small house fan pointed at the mobo and see if the temps go down, and I imagine they will. I have a 12" house fan bought from Walgreens for $10 that I use to troubleshoot temp problems with. If the temps drop from having that fan pointed at the mobo, then you can bet your butt that a new fn or some good cleaning up will take care of the problem. | its nothing really to be over-concerned. its more about...i guess being "comfortable"...and a nice comfortably "enjoyable" temp is, like hitman said, below 50 on the NB. BUT where you are isn't the limit yet. the max running temp is said to be 80*C on those things. obviously it's not recommended to push the limit persay, but you're definitely alright. clean up in the case is ALWAYS a good idea. men, ready your compressed air cans! ~cheers` |

| Well the cabling is pretty decent, and not too much dust in it either that is noticably visible... so it's pretty unlikely that its an airflow issue. However there are some parts that are pretty close to each other, such as the graphics card and my hard drives, and also the graphics card almost touching the nb fan which I mentioned earlier. I will take a picture and post it later if need be. | my CPU went all the way up to 60C It started to smell hot! usualy runs at 25C roughly it was due to an unpluged casefan Last edited by Death_blooms; March 14th, 2007 at 12:47. |
